Having trouble sleeping while your body is fighting a cold, working on an injury, or battling some other kind of illness? This gentle sleep meditation uses the element of water to help boost your immune system and allow your body to rest and get the healing you need to feel better.

Welcome to this guided meditation for healing your body through the crucible of sleep.

Whatever is going on,

Whether you're recovering from an illness or some injury to your physical body,

Meditation can help.

It soothes the nervous system and boosts the body's natural ability to heal.

Leading our bodies into sleep through meditation can help us fall asleep more easily and sleep more deeply in a healing rest.

Sleep can be difficult at times,

However,

Especially when we feel uncomfortable.

So keep in mind that this meditation alone will be healing for the body and the mind,

Even if you do not fall asleep.

Do your best to relax and enjoy the meditation,

And you will gain many of the benefits of rest,

Even if sleep eludes you tonight.

Please take a moment to get comfortable for this meditation.

Ensure you are as relaxed and comfortable as possible,

Considering how you feel in your body today.

Take a few deep breaths to settle into the shape you've chosen.

Allow these breaths to calm your mind and help you focus on your meditation.

Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth like a sigh.

Take as many of these as you like until your breath begins to settle into a natural rhythm.

Focus on your exhales.

Each one is a release.

We will invite the element of water to help us heal tonight.

First,

Imagine that you are in a circle of protection.

You are safe and held within a space contained by powerful,

Heavy stones or beautiful vines and flowers or a bubble of light.

Perhaps there's a particular place in the world that you can imagine where you feel safe,

Like deep in an old growth forest or at the kitchen table of someone who loves you.

Whatever safe space resonates for you,

Imagine it with detail and precision.

If nothing in particular comes up for you,

A simple stone circle is powerful enough.

Notice what it feels like to be in this safe space.

Acknowledge the elements.

Thank the earth beneath your body,

Supporting you and holding you.

Thank the air around and above you,

Bringing breath and life and space to your body.

Thank the water in your body that flows and moves,

Cleansing what needs to be cleansed,

Nourishing what needs nourishment.

Thank the fire of the sun,

The heat that allows the plants to grow,

The energy inside your body that allows you to move and grow and change and heal.

Honor the land beneath you and anything or anyone else that you wish to acknowledge as we begin our sacred healing practice together.

Now imagine a warm shower cascading from the crown of your head down to your feet.

A waterfall of healing energy that can wash away any tension you are feeling in your body,

Along with any other kinds of energy that you do not currently need in your life.

Perhaps you can imagine lying back in a clear shallow river,

Washing your worries downstream.

Feel your forehead relaxing,

Your jaw.

Allow your tongue to soften in your mouth.

Feel the back of your head relaxing,

The back of your neck.

The warm shower over your head,

The water cascading down your body,

Releasing tension as you go.

Feel the shoulders drop,

Your arms warm and soft right down to the fingers.

Feel the shoulder blades sliding comfortably down,

The space between them soft and easeful.

Your chest is soft and easy,

The breath welcome here.

Your solar plexus,

The stomach area soft and easeful.

Imagine again that warm water washing away any tension or discomfort here.

The belly soft and spacious,

Lots of room for the breath to move here if it wishes.

The lower back spacious and soft.

The breath to move into the hips and pelvis.

This area gently expands with an inhale and softens with each exhale.

The legs relaxing heavy into their support.

The warm water cascading over your skin,

Releasing tension all along the legs and down to the feet.

Now return your attention to the crown of your head,

The soft warm water cascading from the top of your body to the bottom.

Allow the healing water to enter your body gently through the pores of your skin.

Notice where the water wants to go.

Observe any areas of tension,

Discomfort or sensation that may need a little tenderness.

Find one in particular to focus on.

Allow the water to flow here to this area that is asking for some gentle loving attention.

Feel the swirl of warm cleansing energy around this area.

Allow your breath to deepen as much as feels good.

Imagine opening and softening the area to allow the healing water to come in and soothe the sensations here.

Allow the water to wash away any old energy,

Energy that is not useful,

Any stories you have about this particular part of your body.

When this feels complete for you,

Take a deep breath.

Notice a second place in your body,

A place of sensation,

Discomfort,

Or simply a place that is asking for your attention.

This might be an area that has been holding injury or illness,

Or it might be somewhere like your heart or your belly,

A place of emotional holding.

Allow the warm,

Soothing water to wash through this place,

Honoring any emotions that you feel here,

Allowing them to rise and fall and wash away with the water.

Again,

Take a deep breath.

Move to a third place in your body.

Allow the warm water to soothe and calm this area.

Feel free to repeat this process as many times as you like.

Rest in the soothing,

Cleansing river of water energy as long as you need to.

When you feel complete,

Thank the water for its soothing,

Healing energy.

Thank yourself for taking the time to be here and rest in a healing meditation.

Have sweet dreams,

Sweet rest,

And thank you for listening.
