Welcome to this Kids in Nature Night Sky Meditation.
My name is Jessica Amos.
I am founder of Stay With Yourself,
The practice of being who you are,
Where you are.
Tonight's meditation will be done outside when the sky is beginning to go dark or when it is already dark.
And if you're doing this meditation at bedtime and you're in your room and you're not outside,
That is okay.
You can just close your eyes and imagine the night sky.
But if you're able to go outside,
I encourage you to do so.
Find somewhere where you can sit or lie down that's comfortable.
Make yourself cozy and warm if it's a cool night.
And let yourself just relax here outside.
If you need to pause this meditation to get comfortable and to settle in more,
I encourage you to do so and you can come back when you are ready.
Now that you are comfortable,
I want you to close your eyes and focus on your breath.
Take a deep breath in through your nose,
Out through your mouth.
Take a deep breath in through your nose,
Down into your tummy,
And exhale through your mouth.
Take a deep breath into your tummy.
Imagine it's an empty balloon being filled with air.
And exhale and feel your tummy softening and releasing tension.
If you are outside,
You can open your eyes and look up at the night sky.
If you are in bed,
Ready to go to sleep,
Keep your eyes closed and imagine the night sky in your mind.
First notice your body lying here,
Supported,
Relaxed,
At peace.
Does any sound that you hear,
Any nighttime sounds,
Does it sound different at night than it does during the day?
What do you hear outside at nighttime?
Maybe crickets,
Maybe an owl,
Maybe something else.
Notice the air at nighttime.
Is it cooler?
Is it warmer?
Does it feel fresh to take a deep breath in?
Nighttime is so relaxing and beautiful.
Look now at the night sky.
What do you see?
What color is the night sky?
Do you see more than one color in the night sky?
Do you see any clouds?
Do you see any stars?
Can you see the moon?
Do you see the shadows of trees that look like outlines above you in the sky?
What else do you notice?
Let's take a minute to look at the night sky and take in everything we can see.
You can count stars,
You can notice all the colors,
Anything you want.
Let's take it all in.
What a beautiful sky.
Oh,
It's so comforting,
The nighttime.
This is a time of rest.
It's a time of peace.
It's a time to let your brain and your body have a break.
Nighttime is so gentle,
So loving.
The sky is like a big hug or a big warm blanket.
It's covering you,
Shushing everything to sleep.
Imagine the sky is just saying,
Shh.
Imagine if you were able to be in the arms of the night sky,
The night sky had arms,
Big blankety arms,
And you could just be wrapped up in the arms of the night sky,
Dark and comforting.
So peaceful.
I encourage you to continue laying here and just looking at the night sky.
If you're outside looking up at it,
If you're closing your eyes going to sleep,
Continue just picturing the night sky.
So beautiful.
Thank you for sharing this night sky meditation with me.
May you be well and may you stay with yourself today and always.
