Welcome to the stay with yourself,
Letting go meditation.
Start by sitting comfortably in a chair with your feet firmly planted on the floor and your hands gently resting in your lap.
Hold your spine upright and strong as you soften the front of your body and allow your heart space to open.
Close your eyes and take three deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
With each inhale,
Imagine your tummy is an empty balloon being filled with air and with each exhale,
Imagine your tummy softening as you release tension.
I want you to imagine that you are floating in deep dark outer space.
I want you to notice the stars hanging in the far distance.
I want you to notice how it feels to be weightless,
Floating,
Uninhibited by gravity.
And just let yourself float here being carried and held in your weightlessness.
Now I want you to notice that there is a belt tied around your waist and coming off of this belt in all directions are these very long cords floating out around you.
And at the end of each cord are many things,
Some of them people,
Some of them circumstances,
Some of them fears and frustrations,
All kinds of things.
And they are all pulling in the direction that they want to go.
And they're trying to move you along with them on their trajectory through space.
But because there are so many cords going in so many directions,
You are suspended and you cannot move.
You are unable to move freely because their pulling is leaving you stuck,
Floating,
Directionless.
Out of control.
I want you to slowly cut each of these cords from your belt.
You can imagine using a knife.
You can imagine setting the cords on fire.
Slowly one by one as the cords are cut from you,
You feel yourself becoming lighter.
You're able to move more freely.
And each of the objects,
The things on the end of these cords are able to continue on in the trajectory of their choice.
There might be some of these things that you are sad to release that you are having trouble letting go of.
So take comfort in the knowledge that if these things are meant to stay with you in your life that they will move towards you without controlling your movement.
You will move together mutually.
But for now,
Watch everything disappear into the darkness of space and find yourself once again floating freely on your own.
And notice there is light coming in from over there and turn yourself toward it and swim through the darkness of space toward the light.
Notice it becoming brighter.
Notice your vision becoming clearer.
Notice the excitement at nearly being to the light.
And when you reach that border of lightness and darkness,
Swim across it and notice you immediately become a bird and you take off into the sky,
The warm sun filled sky.
And you are flying freely.
Imagine yourself swooping,
Diving,
Twirling,
Standing on tree tops,
Building your nest,
Enjoying your freedom,
Enjoying the light.
Notice the joy that you feel at letting go and trusting that if those things are meant for you,
They will arrive in their own time,
Flying into the light with you,
Not leaving you suspended in the darkness.
Now bring your awareness back into this room and bring with you that feeling of freedom,
Of having crossed the border from lightness and darkness,
Of flying toward the light.
And take three deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Notice how you feel.
And when you are ready,
You can slowly open your eyes.
Thank you for sharing your meditation practice with me.
May you stay with yourself today and always.
You are welcome to continue sitting in meditation for as long as you would like.
For now,
I will leave you here.
