Hello my friend You might be feeling a little lonely right now or missing people who live far away from you.
Loneliness is part of being human occasionally feeling alone or maybe going through periods where you feel that all the time.
So that's the first thing I want you to know that you're not alone in feeling this.
That right now just like you there are people who are in touch with a part of their heart which speaks to the longing for more company or for a certain kind of company because sometimes I've experienced the most lonely I've felt has been when I've been with people who I don't feel fully safe or at home with,
Or who I just feel quite disconnected or isolated from,
Even though I'm in their presence.
And this is not to judge other people,
This is to say I think that that is a very normal feeling.
Thank you.
I have moved to a country far away from where I was born and also spent a lot of my adult life.
I moved from England to Australia and I love it here and I've been here for many many years but I still miss my friends.
And in the modern world,
We connect to people who live all over the globe and it's such a wonderful thing and we do move around.
And people come in and out of our lives.
And all of these can sometimes.
.
.
Bring up a feeling inside of us of emptiness or loneliness.
Or wishing we could be filled with those presences in person So this practice that I'm going to offer here is what I do when I'm feeling like this And I hope that it's something that will help you too,
Maybe you could try.
So we'll do it together.
First of all,
Of course,
Just settle in and welcome yourself exactly as you are with all your precious feelings that's the life force inside of you and your heart.
It's okay to feel lonely.
It's okay to feel this way.
Breathe with your presence as a welcoming breath.
Feel supported here by feeling the places in your body,
Your flesh and bones that are connecting to their support and underneath that support is the support of the earth which is always your friend So send your roots down and say hello to the earth.
And you might feel underneath you that little push up from the earth saying hello to you too.
This is your belonging and it never goes away.
Now tune into this feeling of loneliness in your body.
The best and safest place to feel our feelings is our sensations inside our bodies.
So maybe there's a charge there with the thoughts you're having and feelings.
That feeling alone or missing people.
Instead of going into the story of it,
Feel where that charge is in your physical body,
Where there's some activation.
Maybe your belly your shoulders.
Maybe it's in your chest.
Or the way the muscles of your face may be holding or tightening.
And just let that be felt.
That's a very tender,
Precious,
Vulnerable feeling We want to give it some warmth So one thing you can do is rub your hands together quite quickly if that's available to you Rub the palms of your hands together and draw warmth there and then place that warmth once you've got some heat going there.
As a generous energy right against that place where you feel the charge maybe it's your belly or your heart place it's feeling alone.
Give it that balm,
That warmth.
This touch says I'm here,
You're supported,
You're seen.
And it's okay.
When I feel far away.
From people I love,
I remember that every single person that I love lives in my heart.
And when something happens where I feel lost or overwhelmed or shocked,
Those very human feelings we all have.
I think about falling into that love in my heart.
Beautiful safety net of all the people who bring me so much unconditional respect,
Caring.
Support.
Kindness,
Happiness.
Cheerfulness,
Joy.
So I invite you now just to think about the people in your life who bring that to you.
Bring some of those things to you.
Sort of summon them up,
You can even name them or see their faces or their eyes looking at you.
And imagine as you feel your heart now that there's a doorway of your heart and that doorway of your heart is opening.
And one by one,
Each person is walking inside.
Coming in.
As if you were opening the doorway of your heart to host.
A party or a dinner or a friendly catch-up time.
You are opening that doorway.
Each person that you've loved is moving in.
Settling in.
Maybe you're offering them a chair,
Passing them a cup of tea.
And your breathing and every cycle of breath you're feeling.
Everyone getting cozy in your heart.
There's laughter.
That's joy,
The joy of reunion.
This caring and comfort.
You may be offering hugs,
So feel that hug coming back into your body.
Hold that for a breath or two,
That hug.
That feeling,
That energy.
And that also there's that quiet companionship when you don't even need to say a word.
They're here.
You're here.
Every breath.
Just breathing with how your heart,
Your presence has been populated by all the people who love you and you have loved.
All people you love.
All that love.
All that joy.
All that caring.
It might feel like a celebration.
For a quiet coziness and companionship.
But take some breaths into the fullness.
Fullness of your heart,
The fullness of the room.
Of your heart.
Populated with all this loveliness.
It really exists,
All those threads that exist within real people,
Real hearts,
They never go away.
They're always here.
Very special.
Now bond with that feeling,
Take both hands to your body as if taking them to that feeling,
To that love,
To each of those threads,
Those people who have woven love into your life and you into theirs and that connection,
Honoring it.
Honouring it with your touch,
The warmth of your own heart and your hands.
And maybe you're whispering thank you as you take a breath in and out.
Letting your gratitude flow.
Maybe there's a smile on your lips and a smile warming in your inner body.
And let yourself carry that as you go forward.
Connecting now to what feels more full and bright.
Feeling everyone you loved and love and who loves you coming with you.
