Visualization and imagery meditations can be very effective techniques for managing and potentially healing chronic pain.
These meditations help you shift your focus and energy away from pain and towards the healing process.
Let's begin with a flowing water meditation.
Take a moment to find a comfortable place to sit or lay down.
Close your eyes and take a deep,
Soothing breath.
Inhale,
Expand.
Exhale,
Contract.
Inhale,
Receive.
Exhale,
Give away.
Inhale,
Take in.
Exhale,
Let go.
And now visualize a peaceful,
Flowing body of water,
Such as a river or a stream.
Picture your pain as a heavy rock in the middle of that stream.
Try to imagine as much detail as possible about the stream or river as well as the heavy rock.
Bring all the senses into your image.
The sounds of the water rushing by.
Any other sounds you hear.
Birds chirping.
As well as any fragrance.
The shapes and colors.
And what color is the heavy rock?
What shape does it take as it sits in the middle of the stream?
As you continue to breathe deeply,
Envision the water eroding the rock,
Making it smoother and less burdensome.
Imagine the water eroding the rock and making it smaller and smaller.
And as the rock erodes,
Imagine the pain being carried away by the flowing water,
Leaving you feeling lighter and lighter and more at ease.
Breathe deeply,
Envisioning the rock eroding,
Breaking apart,
Getting smaller and smaller.
And feel the gentle movement of the water as it washes over and through your body,
Providing you with incredible healing power.
Imagine the water is flowing and carrying your pain away with it.
Imagine the water is powerful and healing as it washes over and through you.
Imagine you can no longer see the rock.
It has been eroded down to nothing and the water has taken it away.
Stay in this imagery,
Allowing the soothing sensation of water to reduce your pain and promote incredible,
Phenomenal healing.
Return to this imagery as often as you possibly can,
A very easily accessible tool to imagine the pain becoming smaller and disappearing and the water healing and cleansing.
Return to this imagery as often as you need to feel ease and soothing to your body.
