Okay,
So let's be honest.
Most of us are either living in the past or the future,
But almost never in the present.
You could be chilling,
Doing absolutely nothing wrong,
And suddenly your brain goes,
Hey,
Remember that embarrassing thing you did seven years ago?
And you're like,
Why are you doing this now?
Or you're trying to relax and your mind jumps to the future.
What if everything goes wrong tomorrow?
What if I fail?
What if I forget something important?
Meanwhile,
Nothing is actually happening.
You're just sitting there,
Maybe even holding a snack or drinking a cup of tea.
And the funny thing is,
The present moment is usually fine.
Like right now,
Are you in danger?
Probably not.
Are you being chased by a lion?
Hopefully not.
If yes,
Okay,
Different situation.
But most of the time,
In this exact moment,
Things are actually okay.
The problem is,
Our brain doesn't trust okay.
It wants drama.
It wants to overthink everything.
So it drags us into the past for regret or into the future for anxiety.
But when you actually stop and focus on now,
Like really focus,
Something changes.
You notice small things.
Your breathing.
Sounds around you.
The fact that life is just happening.
No overthinking required.
And no,
This doesn't mean you suddenly become some calm monk who never worries again.
You'll still overthink.
You'll still stress.
But now you can catch it.
You can go,
Oh,
Here we go again.
Brain doing its thing.
And then just come back to the moment.
So yes,
The big idea is pretty simple.
Stop letting your brain drag you into things that aren't even happening.
Because life isn't in the past.
It's not in the future.
It's in this moment.
Even if this moment is just you sitting there,
Listening to me,
Wondering what you're having for dinner later.
