Ten minutes of mountain meditation.
Sitting like a mountain.
We can visualise a mountain or just have a sense of a mountain.
A mountain has a base,
Sides and a peak,
Just like we do,
Sitting here.
A mountain is still,
Quiet,
Silent.
A mountain is rooted in the earth in the present moment.
And so can we be.
We can be just here.
A mountain sits,
Is open to the elements.
It accepts wherever comes its way.
Storms,
Lashings of rain,
Sunshine,
Blue skies,
Avalanches.
But the mountain just sits.
No drama.
A mountain remains quiet,
Unperturbed.
We too could stay out of the drama.
A mountain is unrestricted.
A mountain is unrestricted,
Just open to everything.
We too can be open to everything.
Sounds,
Body sensations,
Smells,
Tastes and sights.
Even with the eyes closed,
They're still seeing.
A mountain never complains.
It doesn't wish for anything different.
It's just here,
Facing each moment.
It never hankers after yesterday.
Never craves tomorrow,
Something else.
It's rooted in acceptance and now.
It's never not in the now.
So perhaps we can sit,
Like the mountain,
Still.
Not rigid,
Just still.
Silent.
Strong.
Not easily moved.
Not easily disturbed.
There is nothing the mountain needs.
And right now,
There's nothing we need.
It's sitting like a mountain,
Upright,
Relaxed,
Rooted.
But with a softness.
A mountain is just a mountain.
We are just who we are.
No masks.
The mountain doesn't pretend.
And in a few moments,
We're going to bring this mountain meditation to an end.
But can we take just a little of the mountain quality into life with us?
This serenity,
This steadfastness,
This silence and stillness,
This uncomplaining attitude.
And the mountain never blames the weather.
