Kindness is expressed through appreciation and acknowledgment—with words, gestures or just through the energy we’re transmitting when we’re with the people we care about or with strangers. Ultimately, kindness starts with us being kind ourselves. The mind has a habit pattern of seeing what’s not happening or where things are falling short. The practice of conscious appreciation can interrupt that. I’m working with a practice of saying 9 appreciative things for every 1 suggestion of how things could be improved.
