Welcome To Somatic Sleep With EFT Tapping
This opening session walks you through everything you need to know before beginning the course. EFT tapping - or Emotional Freedom Techniques - involves gently tapping on specific acupressure points on the face and body whilst speaking honestly about how you feel. This sends a direct calming signal to the amygdala, the brain's threat centre, helping to regulate the nervous system from the inside out. Combined with somatic body awareness, this makes it a deeply effective tool for sleep.
Each night builds gently on the last, moving through seven themes - Settle, Soften, Surface, Shift, Surrender, Soothe and Slumber - and some elements are intentionally repeated across sessions to help the brain build new patterns around rest.
Most people find the sessions work best listened to from bed, though if deeper emotional material sometimes takes time to settle, earlier in the evening works just as well.
You are encouraged to move through the course at your own pace and return to any session whenever you need it. If at any point you would prefer not to tap physically, simply imagining yourself tapping is just as beneficial — studies show it activates many of the same neurological pathways. And if closing your eyes ever feels uncomfortable, a soft downward gaze is always absolutely fine.
If you are currently experiencing significant stress or trauma, please move gently and consider working alongside professional support. This course is a complement to care, not a replacement for it.

Settle
Tonight is about one thing - arriving. Whatever the day held, however busy or heavy or unfinished it felt, this session gently invites you to put it down and begin coming home to yourself. Using EFT tapping and somatic body awareness, you will move through five rounds that guide you from the busyness of the day into a quieter, more settled place. You will begin to notice what settling actually feels like in your body - not as a perfect or forced state, but as a natural landing, like snow coming gently to rest. No experience of tapping is needed, and there is nothing to get right tonight. All you need to do is arrive, exactly as you are.

Soften
Tonight, we go a little deeper. Stress and tension don't just live in our minds - they settle in our shoulders, our jaw, our chest, our belly, often without us even realising. This session begins by acknowledging the frustration and bracing that can build around sleep over time, because we cannot soften what we haven't first acknowledged. From there, a guided somatic body scan invites you to bring gentle, curious attention to where the tension lives - not to force it away, but simply to meet it with kindness. There is also a gentle invitation to consider how the places we hold tension in our bodies are often the places where we are hardest on ourselves, and to begin turning that same softness inward. Some elements from Night One are woven in intentionally - this repetition helps the brain begin to build new patterns around rest.

Surface
Sometimes what keeps us awake isn't just a busy mind or a tense body - it's something sitting just beneath the surface. A worry that keeps circling, an emotion that didn't get felt during the day, or a stress that has become so familiar it's almost invisible. Tonight's session creates a gentle, safe space for whatever is there to rise and be acknowledged - because when we stop holding things down, the nervous system no longer has to do that work for us at 3 am. Using EFT tapping and guided somatic awareness, you will be invited to tune inward with curiosity rather than judgment, meet whatever is here with compassion, and allow it to soften rather than trying to fix or suppress it. You don't need to know what the feeling is or where it comes from - simply being willing to acknowledge that something is there is enough. If deeper emotions surface during this session, please move gently and at your own pace.

Shift
Tonight marks the halfway point - and this is where things begin to change at a deeper level. If you have ever felt exhausted all day only to feel suddenly wired the moment your head hits the pillow, this session will help you understand why. Your nervous system is not broken - it has simply learned, over time, to associate bedtime with alertness rather than rest. Tonight you will learn about conditioned responses and neuroplasticity — the brain's remarkable ability to rewire itself at any age - and begin the gentle process of offering your nervous system a new experience of what bedtime can feel like. You will start building a new pathway towards rest, one that becomes a little more familiar every time you return to this work. This is not about forcing change overnight. It is about moving the needle, one gentle degree at a time.

Surrender
Tonight, we explore one of the most profound and often misunderstood aspects of sleep - the art of allowing. If you have ever lain awake watching, waiting, and willing sleep to arrive, this session will help you understand why that very effort can keep sleep just out of reach. Through EFT tapping, breath work, and somatic body awareness, you will begin to practice something quieter than trying - a gentle stepping back from the outcome and a willingness to simply be here, without needing anything to happen. The session includes a physiological sigh - a science-backed breathing technique your body already knows how to do - to help release held tension and begin softening the nervous system from the inside out. The word surrender can feel loaded for some people, particularly if letting go hasn't always felt safe, so please move through this session gently and at your own pace. Allowing the resistance is part of the practice, too.

Soothe
Tonight we turn tenderness fully inward. So many of us find it easy to be gentle with others - a friend, a child, someone we love who is struggling - and yet when it comes to ourselves, that same warmth can feel so much harder to access. This session explores the inner critic - that voice or feeling of not quite being enough - not to silence it or fight it, but to understand where it came from and gently invite it to rest. Using EFT tapping, guided visualisation and a simple but powerful self-holding practice, you will begin to offer yourself the same kindness you so freely give to others. Research shows that holding ourselves activates the same neurological response as being held by someone else - so this is not just a gesture, it is genuine nervous system regulation. You deserve rest not when you have earned it, but simply because you exist. Tonight is an invitation to begin believing that.

Slumber
Welcome to the final night. Tonight is not about learning anything new - it is about integration. About letting everything you have practiced this week settle into your body and become part of how you rest. Over seven nights, you have learned to Settle, Soften, Surface, Shift, Surrender, and Soothe - and tonight all of that comes together in one gentle, integrative journey into deep, restorative sleep. This session includes a final guided body scan, counted breath work, and a closing meditation to anchor everything you have built this week. The tools you leave with tonight are yours to keep - you can return to any session whenever life gets loud or sleep feels hard again. Your nervous system will remember, because the body always remembers kindness. It has been a privilege to share this journey with you.
