A Practice Of Deep Diaphragmatic Breathing
by MitSukha
Join MitSukha to discover the power of deep, smooth, even, continuous diaphragmatic breathing, which stimulates the nervous system & heals the mind from within. An ancient story told in the Chandogya Upanishad begins with a heated dispute among the eyes, ears, mind & vital breath over which is the most indispensable for human life. To resolve the issue each function agrees to vacate the body for 1 year leaving the others to manage without it. After they have all returned the function with the greatest importance will be determined. One by one the eyes, ears & the mind depart & through blindness, loss of hearing & a nearly coma-like existence life manages to continue. Then the vital breath begins to leave & suddenly the remaining functions find themselves uprooted as if a strong horse, anchored to the ground, were pulling up the stakes that held it. Awestruck, the other senses beseech the breath to return humbly accepting its preeminent role in sustaining life.
