This meditation begins with the idea of effortlessness (no action) and walks thru how effortlessness is how life operates whereas "our idea" of effort, causes us to suffer. Doing "something" in order to achieve something is what we have been taught but it does not work in all walks of life - it is experientially unfolded in this contemplation. Long pauses are an invitation for the meditator to explore the point being covered.

Let's close our eyes.

Let the mind calm down on its own.

Let the mind calm down on its own.

In almost every part of our life,

Every activity of our life,

Doing something,

Gets us there.

But this is a special activity in our life where doing something is the barrier for getting us there.

Let the mind calm down on its own.

This might be a hard pill to swallow.

Meditation,

The way it is talked about,

Seems to be an activity of doing something.

I meditate,

You should meditate.

It gives an impression that it is a form of activity of doing.

But it is actually an act of not doing.

Let the mind calm down on its own.

Doing involves effort.

Not doing has no effort.

For example,

If I asked you to tell something to your friend,

When you are talking to them,

When you met them,

Tell them about this particular topic,

ABC.

When you actually meet them,

You will tell them about ABC,

For instance.

But if I told you,

Don't tell anyone about ABC.

When you do meet your friend,

Not telling about ABC should be effortless,

As opposed to telling about ABC,

Which involves speaking,

Constructing sentences,

Etc.

But most of the cases and most of the times,

Not telling will be more effort,

Significantly more effort,

Than telling.

It seems so easy to just.

.

.

It seems so easy to just not say,

To just not do.

But most of the effort is spent in the mental activity of not doing,

Which is very counter-intuitive.

It's like a negotiation.

It's strategizing.

But at the end,

It's only being effortless.

Just like that,

Right now,

There is no need to do anything.

Even without you doing anything,

Life is moving ahead.

Digestion is happening.

Sensations are happening.

You're able to hear my voice,

Understand the words.

Thoughts are coming up.

Feelings are coming up.

So this flow of life need not be interfered with,

At least for the duration of this sitting.

If the thought of something that needs to happen comes up,

We don't have to jump and start planning about how to do it.

If a sad feeling comes up,

We don't have to sit down with it.

You you you connecting with anyone strangers friends kids spouses requires effort at least to some degree but connecting with ourselves requires only zero effort any effort is taking us away from connecting with ourselves well we are connecting with others we need to understand them we need to ask questions we need to listen to responses body language tell them a story about ourselves about others listen to their stories but when we are connecting with ourselves there's no need for any fluff understand how many thoughts you are getting which breath is coming in and going out or counting the breathssecreting someone you you you you you you you you effortlessness you every move,

Every turn,

Every jump looks effortless,

Feels effortless and most of the athletes know this either consciously or unconsciously that the only way to perform at the peak of their abilities is to relax,

Don't try to do too much you you as we learn the skill of being effortless where no effort is required we can start using this skill in areas and activities of our life where effort is required it's like training during peacetime you you you we thinking about a problem or a scenario does not necessarily influence the action from happening in any ways but we have been taught to think about a problem only then the problem can be solved so we think we think until we can't fall asleep you the only way sleep happens is through effortlessness the more you try to sleep the longer you stay awake you most of our life happens in effortlessness any kind of effort is a sign of dis-ease digestion happens effortlessly the understanding of my words happens effortlessly breathing happens effortlessly effortlessly so today's contemplation is an invitation to consider not doing when we don't have to do anything at the beginning it might seem like a daunting task because we are used to only effort but if you have if my words have resonated in your hearts then you will try it thank you
