Welcome to Michelle's Meditation Sanctuary and tonight's 5-minute sleep meditation for busy minds.
We're going to slow things down together,
So be sure you have done all you need to do to prepare for bed as we begin this voyage to sleep.
Close your eyes and as you do,
Imagine an opening at the crown of your head.
See it,
Feel it,
All the thoughts that keep you up begin to take flight,
Lifting effortlessly,
Floating far,
Far away.
They drift out of your room,
Out of your home,
And into the vast starry sky,
Venturing to a place where thoughts go when they no longer serve you.
And as they slip into the night,
You feel lighter,
Freer.
Your priority now is to feel good.
You've earned it and deserve it.
Now let out a sigh,
Clear the air,
And take a deep breath in,
And fill your lungs to their greatest capacity.
And as you exhale,
Feel everything settle.
Again,
Inhale deeply,
Filling yourself with ease,
And exhale,
Maybe in a sigh,
As you release the day.
Now bring your awareness to your body,
Feeling your forehead soften,
Your jaw unclench,
Your shoulders relax,
Sinking effortlessly down.
With each breath,
The tension melts from your arms,
Hands,
And fingers.
Your chest rises and falls in a steady rhythm,
Slowing to match the quiet hush of the night.
All of you feel heavier,
Surrendering to the gentle pull of sleep.
You imagine yourself in a safe cottage,
Perched above a quiet harbor.
Inside,
The air is warm and dry,
Scented with wood and faint traces of salt from the sea.
A single candle flickers in the mullioned window,
Its golden light swaying,
Casting shadows that dance along the walls.
Beyond the glass,
The deep blue-black water ripples,
A collection of mirrors that capture the star-strewn indigo sky.
The harbor is peaceful,
The world outside slowing to match your breath.
You watch as the candle's flame moves in a mesmerizing rhythm,
The glow pulsing in time with your heartbeat.
With each slow inhale,
The flame steadies.
With each exhale,
It burns lower.
Sense how your breath controls it.
The more you slow down,
The more the flame dwindles.
Your breath deepens,
Your mind unwinds,
Like turning down a dial,
Shifting into softness toward sleep.
The candlelight dims,
Shrinking to an ember,
Until at last it fades into the darkness to leave a squiggly wisp of smoke.
Your tired body finds its way across the creaking wooden floors to the coziest bedroom and the most supportive bed.
A heavy quilt settles over you as you lie down,
Its weight grounding you,
Pressing you down just enough in a soothing hug that tells your body it's safe to let go.
The world outside vanishes,
And all that remains is this feeling.
Safe,
Warm,
And at peace.
Sleep welcomes you,
And you give in to its easy,
Gentle invitation.
It's time to dream away.
Good night.
