If you're listening to these words,
You've probably been working hard,
Perhaps without a break.
Let's take a moment to reset.
Firstly,
Give yourself permission to rest.
Let your shoulders drop a fraction.
Allow the jaw to go slack.
Soften the muscles around and behind your eyes.
And let the next out-breath fall from your body like a soft,
Gentle sigh.
You can keep your eyes open or closed as you prefer.
Now,
Notice any lingering thoughts or feelings left over from the last thing you did.
Maybe a conversation,
Decision,
Moment of pressure,
Or just the sense of being switched on.
Briefly acknowledge the effect those things had on you.
You might say,
That was tough,
Or phew,
I'm glad that's over.
Whatever is most appropriate for you.
The stress of the day might not entirely leave you,
But just for now,
Let the parts of you that were clocked on enjoy a little time out.
And notice your shoulders again.
Can they drop a little more?
Can the jaw release a touch further?
Can the eyes soften?
These are places we commonly hold tension,
And when they soften,
The whole body follows.
You can enhance that sense of relaxation by letting your breath drop a little deeper into the body.
As though you were breathing in through the base of the spine,
Feeling a gentle expansion within the pelvis and abdomen with each in-breath,
And letting each exhalation be slightly softer and slower.
And if you find yourself gripping,
Or bracing,
Or preparing for anything,
Allow that tension to briefly dissipate.
Let this moment be free from anticipation or regret.
And just for now,
Know that you don't have to hold on to the emotions or expectations of others.
Instead,
Feel the simple contact of your feet on the floor,
Or your body where it sits.
And pretend that for the next 10 seconds,
You're far away,
In a place where there's no work to be done.
Now,
Before you move on,
Choose one quality to bring to the next part of your day.
Steadiness,
Clarity,
Patience,
Presence,
Or something else.
And when you're ready,
You can move on,
Hopefully with a small shift towards steadiness.
And if you'd like a deeper end-of-day reset,
You might enjoy the companion track.
After work,
A gentle defrag for your body and mind.
