In this meditation, you'll be guided through a visualization to meet with an ancestor. You can choose to meet with a specific ancestor or you can remain open to meeting with any ancestor who would like to show their support. You will then be able to ask a question or make a request for healing, forgiveness, guidance, or whatever you think would be helpful for you at this time. Connecting with an ancestor in this way can be a powerful and profound experience that will lift your spirits and leave you feeling at peace knowing that someone is always there to support you. Transcript

Welcome to this meditation.

For today's practice,

You'll have a chance to connect with an ancestor.

It can be one of your choosing,

Or you can remain open to whoever shows up.

You'll be able to ask a question or make a request for healing,

Forgiveness,

Support,

Wisdom,

Or anything you think would be helpful for you to receive at this time.

And before we begin,

If you'd like,

You can gather any items that represent your ancestors.

Photographs,

Something that once belonged to them,

Or any object that can symbolize or honor them.

You can either hold on to these items or have the items nearby during the meditation to help you connect with the ancestral energy.

Once you've collected any items that you want to have with you,

You can go ahead and settle into a comfortable position,

Allowing your body to relax.

When you're ready,

Gently close your eyes.

Take a deep breath in,

And when you breathe out,

Allow the muscles in your neck and shoulders to release and relax.

Breathing in again,

Filling your lungs,

Releasing the air slowly and gently.

Breathe in again,

And slowly breathe out,

And continue breathing at a pace that feels right for you.

Feeling yourself relaxing more and more with each breath,

Scanning through your body for any areas of tension.

Breathing into those areas of tension or tightness,

And releasing as you exhale,

Relaxing the muscles in your back and shoulders,

Relaxing the muscles in your neck,

Relaxing your jaw,

Softening the muscles around your eyes,

Smoothing the muscles across your forehead.

Breathing in fully,

Filling your lungs with air,

Releasing slowly,

Feeling yourself settle into stillness and peace.

Becoming aware of your entire body,

Feeling where your body is in contact with the chair or the surface beneath you,

Bringing your awareness to the base of your spine,

And imagining that you're sending a root from the base of your spine down into the center of the earth,

Sending this root down through all the layers of the earth until it connects solidly with the earth's core.

Feeling yourself grounded and rooted to the earth,

Secure and stable.

And now I'll ask that you set an intention for this meditation.

What is it that you hope to gain from connecting with an ancestor today?

You can also specify if there's a specific ancestor you'd like to meet,

Or you can simply call in your collective ancestry and be open to whoever shows up.

So go ahead and state your intention to yourself now.

And now I'd like you to bring into mind a peaceful and serene place.

This place can be anywhere that brings you a sense of calm and ease.

It can be indoors or outdoors,

Someplace you've been before or someplace you've never been,

But you can imagine it to be peaceful.

Imagine yourself in this wonderfully peaceful place and fully immerse yourself in it,

Looking around and noticing what you can see around you,

Taking in all of the details of this place.

What surrounds you?

What can you see in the distance or on the horizon?

What sounds can you hear in this place?

What's the temperature of the air?

Can you feel a breeze on your face or is the air still?

Are you touching or resting against anything?

Notice how you feel in this place,

Allowing a sense of calm and peace to flow through you.

And now take a full deep breath in and release it slowly with a smile,

Enjoying the calm scenery around you as you await your ancestor.

And now see your ancestor approaching you.

See this person standing in front of you.

Take a moment to notice what you see,

Their features,

Their clothing.

See them with a warm smile on their face,

Noticing the smile on their face and the smile in their eyes.

You can return the smile and greet this ancestor and ask their name if you don't recognize them.

Now see this person offering you a kind and warm gesture.

Perhaps they're placing a hand on your shoulder or reaching out to hold your hand or perhaps offering you a hug.

Noticing how it feels to receive this kind gesture and what it feels like to be in this person's presence.

And in a moment you can communicate to your ancestor any questions or requests that you have for them,

Keeping in mind that they may not have a precise answer or solution,

But they may have a story or a piece of wisdom to share or something to show you that can help you on your path.

Go ahead and speak to your ancestor now and await their response.

Now imagine this person saying something kind and supportive to you,

Something that you need to hear,

The encouragement and reassurance that's most needed in your life right now.

Once you've received this supportive message,

Allow a smile to come across your face.

Focusing in on how it feels to be supported,

Recognized and cared for,

And allow yourself to really feel it.

Allowing any feelings to arise and appreciating this special moment.

Take some time now to extend your gratitude to your ancestor and say goodbye for now in whatever way feels right for you,

Knowing that they're always available and here with you and you can connect with them again at any point.

See your ancestor give you a nod and a knowing smile before they turn to walk away and slowly fade from your view.

And now as you hold this feeling of reverence and gratitude deep in your heart,

You can begin to slowly return yourself back to this time and this place.

Go ahead and take a deep breath in and release slowly.

Becoming aware of your body and the space that you're in right now.

When you're ready,

Gently opening your eyes and returning fully to this time and this place.

Wonderful and welcome back.

For some people,

The experience of connecting with ancestors or loved ones who have passed can be a powerful,

Profound and emotional experience.

And so I encourage you to be gentle with yourself as you move into whatever's next for you.

Take time for yourself if you need it and I'm wishing you peace,

Ease,

Joy and love as you move forward.
