Introduction to Meditation: In the first session of the course, students will be introduced to the core concept of meditation. This introductory segment aims to demystify meditation by dispelling prevalent misconceptions. Students can anticipate gaining insights into meditation's spiritual benefits, providing a holistic understanding of the practice. Learners can begin their journey of tranquility and awakening. The Role of Presence in Meditation: The second module of this course centers around the crucial role presence plays in meditation. Students will delve deeper into the concept of presence, understanding its intricacies and the symbiotic relationship it shares with meditation. This module also incorporates a practical exercise called "A moment of presence" which aids in experiencing and absorbing the theoretical knowledge imparted. Beginning to Meditate: Focusing on Breath: In the third module, we transition from theory to practice, starting with a simple yet fundamental technique – focusing on one's breath. A detailed explanation of this technique will be provided, followed by a guided practice session. This hands-on session will help students get started with their personal meditation journey. Expanding Awareness: Body and Surroundings: This section of the course shifts the focus from breath to other aspects of personal perception: body sensations and surrounding space. Learners will be guided through the process of widening their scope of awareness. The guided practice of 'Awareness Meditation' will allow them to cultivate mindfulness and foster a heightened sense of their physical selves and their environment. Dealing with Thoughts and Emotions: A common challenge faced during meditation is how to deal with the surge of thoughts and emotions that might distract the practitioner. This module is dedicated to addressing this challenge, providing insights into the art of observing thoughts and emotions without judgment or resistance. A guided practice focused on this skill will be offered, providing a practical approach to managing distractions during meditation. Making Meditation a Practice: As we near the end of the course, this module discusses consistency in meditation. Tips and techniques for establishing a regular meditation routine will be shared, reinforcing the notion that patience and regular practice are the key elements in this journey. This module intends to help students turn meditation from a one-time activity into a lifelong habit. Conclusion and Encouragement: The final module concludes the course with words of encouragement to keep students motivated on their meditation journey. It serves as a reminder of the myriad benefits that a consistent meditation practice can bring about in their lives. By the end of this course, students should feel empowered to continue with their meditation journey, equipped with a deep understanding of its practice and potential benefits.

Beginning to Meditate: Focusing on Breath

It's time to begin our practice. One of the simplest and most profound ways to meditate is by focusing on the breath. The breath is a natural anchor that grounds us in the present moment. It's always with us, continuously flowing in and out, a silent testament to the miracle of life unfolding within us.

Lesson 4

Dealing with Thoughts and Emotions

As we continue our journey into meditation, we will inevitably encounter waves of thoughts and emotions. This is completely normal and, in fact, an essential part of the process. Many people believe that meditation is about silencing the mind or eliminating emotions, but this is a misconception. Meditation is not about stopping thoughts and emotions but learning to observe them without judgment or identification.

I really liked this and being quite new to mediation if was an easy, simple yet helpful introduction to mediation. I wanted to give more stars but session 4 left me frustrated and it felt incomplete, like it just needed to be finish. For me the session was too fast paced compared to 2 and 3. There was not enough time to try to meditate, using the knowledge from the session, because the part about building a meditation practice abruptly started. I wanted and needed to try meditating at that point. After building a meditation practice there were a very short moment to meditate, this felt too short as well. A suggestion is to make the building a meditation practice a session of its own, a closing session, session 5.

Excellent course. It clarified a few things. Would like it if the instructor slowed down, and paused more between concepts instead of a long continuous talk.
