Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott.
Oh it's still chilly up here on Dartmoor.
I've actually ducked into a gully and there are two very high grassy banks on either side of me and I'm really thrilled because if I hadn't stopped here I wouldn't have seen these delightful purple violets peeping through the grass.
It's a real reminder that spring is here and spring,
Even though it's cold,
Still does its thing.
And today I want to carry on from what I was talking about yesterday.
Do you remember I described that metaphor of putting down the rucksack,
The rucksack that you put down and then you feel this real release having put down the rucksack and I shared how that might be a metaphor to describe what happens when people come across the three principles for the first time and they insightfully see that they're carrying around the burden of thoughts and feelings and fears and like that rucksack they put that rucksack down and they feel this intense sense of joy and gratitude.
But a bit like putting down a heavy rucksack you soon start to get used to what it's like to walking through life without a rucksack on your back and you just normalize.
You find that you find your natural way of being and it's the same with the three principles.
Once you insightfully see the the rucksack that you've been lugging around in your life full of stories of fears anxieties and worries and concerns and you put it down you feel this intense release but after a while the intensity of that initial feeling lessens and reduces and you kind of just get back into a very healthy natural contented frame of mind and most people are like well what's happened I I felt this intense joy and gratitude and now it's gone am I doing the three principles wrong?
Well of course you're not doing them wrong you can't they're a description of how life works.
So it's really helpful just to recognize this as a metaphor and I'm going to extend the metaphor further because when you understand what's going on and let's assume the rucksack is full of rocks for example and each of these rocks represents different thoughts and stories and feelings and regrets and fears and anxieties and stresses and worries in your life.
When you realize that you've been carrying around a rucksack unnecessarily what tends to happen is that you make the choice not to pick it up in the first place.
It's like why would I?
I don't need to carry that around I don't need to haul all those horrible feelings around with me in life I am going to carry on in this contented way that I've explored living life I don't need to carry this rucksack.
So what tends to happen with the inside out understanding is that you start to navigate your life understanding how it works and that means that you don't need to pick up the rocks of your thoughts and feelings and stories that you once thought were true.
You can see through them you can see they're not true so why would you pick them up?
Why would you burden yourself with them?
And that is why over time what I've discovered is rather than feeling ecstatic and joyful and excited and happy happy happy all the time I feel this wonderful contentment that absolutely infuses my whole life and I feel a tranquility and peace of mind that is with me during the day and and when I have those human experiences those human worries and fears and anxieties I tend to let them go more quickly because I see them more quickly and I bring my awareness back to the truth of who I am being a loving kind entity a spiritual entity at my core in essence.
I bring my awareness back to that and as I do so metaphorically that rucksack full of the rocks of the thoughts and feelings and fears disappears.
I no longer have to carry it.
So that is what is so marvelous about the Insight Hour understanding and don't forget there's a course on the three principles on Insight Timer here so have a little look at that see what you make of it but the description of how life works and then and understanding how life works means that I navigate life with more ease because I no longer get tripped up I no longer carry so many rocks around in my rucksack of life I find that when I notice my rucksack is full I lay it down.
That's what the three principles and Insight Hour understanding can offer you and I do recommend you explore it further.
I hope you've enjoyed this and don't forget to join me again tomorrow for another five minutes in nature.
