Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott on a very grey,
Grey overcast day up here on Dartmoor.
There's a spit of rain I can feel all about me.
I think I'm in a bit of a mist here and today as I'm striding across Dartmoor it's a damp cold rather than the bitter,
Bitter cold we've had over the past few days and I've just noticed the change in the terrain.
Yesterday when I was walking it was rock hard,
Like concrete,
The ground I was walking on and today the rain came in overnight.
It's not really heavy rain at the moment but there's a shift in the air and the temperature has risen slightly so it's no longer freezing.
The ground has softened up and everything just feels different.
I know there's a storm coming in tomorrow and I'm just pleased to get out outdoors and not get too wet.
I think tomorrow I'm going to be quite limited with my walking and what I'll be able to do.
I'm just here as I'm looking over a five bar gate I can see lambs and sheep in a field.
Usually we have lambs at about March,
April time up here on Dartmoor you'll see them out and about but there is one particular breed I think of sheep that lambs December time and I'm assuming that these must be those sheep and the lambs are looking quite quite old now,
A few weeks old I would say.
Today is actually a reflection on change.
It's quite apt really because there's such a change in the weather from icy cold we've had that long icy stretch which has lasted what feels like days and days and days and it's moving,
It's shifting,
It's moving on and tomorrow's storm is coming in and maybe maybe that storm is going to bring snow maybe it'll just bring rain I think probably just rain because we're in the southwest and usually we get rain rather than snow in the southwest of England but change is really the theme of today and as I was walking really enjoying actually this change in the weather.
I've loved the coldness,
I've loved the bright blue skies that we've had and the bitter bitter cold wind that I've had on my morning walks and I'm also relishing this change.
I no longer have to worry about slipping over on the icy roads and I'm kind of looking forward in a way to the storm which will bring in a completely different feeling of of weather so change is all about and change is quite apparent in the weather as I'm walking today and of course change in life is worth exploring too.
We kind of live our lives maybe resisting change or looking forward to change or somehow trying to manage change and for me the realization today is that life is always changing.
Sometimes it seems to change quite quickly in the same way that the weather is now changing quite quickly from icy cold to damp and rain but sometimes life just changes gradually but whatever speed of change and whatever part of your life you're looking at one thing is for sure there is change and I know people respond differently to change for some people there's a feeling of trying to manage change or there's a feeling of loss of control when changes happen and for others there's an embracing of change as a sort of an excitement that something new is unfolding and what whichever way you respond to change is just the way you respond to it what I'm really interested in today is just exploring and considering that change is always happening.
Sometimes we're aware of it shifting and changing around us and other times it feels like change is foisted upon us and things move differently in in the world and we feel a bit discombobulated or unsettled by that change but whatever happens when you realize that change is an inevitable part of life it is life that is what happens for us as human beings change is going to happen when you realize that then you align yourself with the way life works you align yourself with change but the thing that is most important is that whilst in our human lives change does occur it's happening all the time if we look within to that steady quiet peaceful rock solid grounded wise intuitive space within us that ever present that sense of now within us well that doesn't change things around us might change in the outside world but there is something that is unchanging and it is that unchanging sense of our true nature that is the place to put your attention so whatever change is happening around you in life bring your awareness back to that settled ever-present space within you bring your awareness back to consciousness bring your awareness back to who you truly are and realize that there is something that is ever present and ever constant in your life
