Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott.
I'm sheltering at the moment in a little gully on Dartmoor.
There's a quite a strong blowy southerly wind and it's hard to find shelter when I'm right up on the moorland itself because I am up on the hill at the moment.
So I'm hunkering in this little gully admiring the bracken and ferns around me and seeing that the sky is very low and grey,
Not raining at the moment.
But very low in grey,
Which is very typical for Dartmoor.
And today's reflection carries on from yesterday,
And so if you haven't listened to yesterday's reflection,
I would really recommend you do that first,
Because it won't make sense to listen to today's otherwise.
So yesterday we were exploring something which I've recently shared on a retreat,
And it encapsulates the way that I share the inside-out understanding,
The three principles.
It's made so much difference to me.
So much difference.
And this is what I want to share with others so that they have a chance and you have a chance of experiencing this for yourself.
And the premise is really simple with what I share.
There are two things that I share that for me feel absolutely true.
I don't believe them,
I don't hope they're true,
But for me they are absolutely true.
And my assertion is that they are true for everyone.
And that is that at our core and essence we are deeply okay.
We are love,
We are the energy behind life.
And we get lost in thought and thinking.
We get distracted away from that feeling of okayness,
That sense of groundedness by the thoughts that flow through our lives.
Yesterday I explained how on the retreat there were two columns that we drew on a flip chart paper and on the left hand column we wrote deeply okay and yesterday you were reflecting on and bringing to mind a time where you felt deeply okay and just listing down some of the qualities that you felt,
The emotions that represented that feeling.
At the retreat,
When we did this,
We had people telling us about feeling peaceful,
Spacious,
A sense of freedom,
Presence,
Flow.
And those are the sorts of words,
When we've done this before,
We've just experienced with so many people.
So if you imagine on the left-hand side,
You write deeply okay at the top,
And you list these words underneath.
Now,
I don't want to spend too much time on this next part,
But you do need to do it just so that you can get a sense of the exercise,
But I want you to go inside yourself.
And I want you to remember,
And I do want you to remember,
A time when you didn't feel okay.
What was that like?
What were the emotions that came up for you then?
And I want you not to intellectually tell me what they are,
But I want you to really feel that for yourself.
And then just scribble them down on a bit of paper.
And when we've done this,
We came up with things with anger and frustration and overwhelm and isolation and sadness and confusion and guilt and worry and stress.
Those were the sorts of things that spilled out onto the paper.
They were much easier for people to access.
I don't want to stop there today.
I don't want you to stop in a place where you're feeling all of those things.
I want you instead to stand back metaphorically from this of paper where you've got the.
.
.
On the left-hand side,
You've got all of the words that represent you being deeply okay.
You've got those beautiful feelings,
Presence,
Flow,
Love.
And on the right-hand side of this bit of paper,
You've got all those agitated,
Unsettled thoughts where you didn't feel okay.
And when you step back and look at them,
I just want you to realize that the left-hand side of that bit of paper is the core and essence of who you are.
That's who you are,
And that never,
Ever leaves you.
It just gets covered over by those agitated,
Unsettled thoughts and thinking,
And you forget momentarily who you truly are.
So we're gonna continue this tomorrow.
I've got one final piece to share with you tomorrow.
So today I just want you to reflect on that.
What is it like to just be open that the sense of who you truly are is all those wonderful words on the left,
Presence and love and connection,
And who you're not are the thoughts and the unsettled thoughts that race by and distract you from who you truly are.
But what if that were true?
And don't forget to join me again tomorrow for the third and final piece on this little exercise.
I look forward to seeing you then.
