Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me,
Liz Scott.
Well,
Here I am on Dartmoor overlooking the bracken on the moor,
The ferns that cover the hillsides.
Just as I started talking a sheep that was grazing with its head down has suddenly put its head up.
It looks like it's swimming in this sea of bracken which has turned a glorious coppery orange colour.
I love this time of year because during the summer the moorland is just incredibly green.
But this time of year there's some distinction with it with the oranges of the hillsides as the bracken carpets them and it looks glowing in the sunshine.
This morning it's a bit misty so I can't see far and I'm just following a well-trusted path on a route I know very well across the moorland.
And today's reflection comes from a retreat that we were running.
And I want to share over the next three days one part of the retreat that we were running because I would love you to understand how we share what we feel is so important for people to understand.
So over the next three days,
Just keep listening in and just spend a bit of time reflecting in these particular areas.
One of the things that we put forward as the way that everybody works as a human being.
Is that we're deeply okay.
And the other thing that we suggest is that we forget this okayness when we get lost in thought and thinking.
So those two things are equally true.
We're deeply okay and we are human and we get lost in thought and thinking.
The purpose is not to feel and experience deep okayness all the time with an experience of lightness and joy and happiness and excitement and just living your life constantly on a cloud of those kinds of feelings.
The purpose is to realize that you have a rock core element to you,
Essence of you.
That is deeply OK.
And that whilst you might forget that occasionally,
It's a bit like when you fall asleep at night and you forget you were lying in bed and you were the one having the dream.
But when you forget that okayness in you,
You can get lost in thought.
I mean,
That's what happens.
But you're still okay.
Even when you're having a dream,
You're still the one in bed as the dreamer.
That doesn't change,
Even though you've forgotten that that's what's happening.
And this is a remembering of who you are.
So the first thing we share,
Or one of the things we share or invite people to do is to reflect on a time when you felt deeply okay,
Where you felt as though life was easeful and you were moving forward with a sense of groundedness.
What was that like?
And sometimes it's really helpful to think of a situation where this occurred.
You just felt in the flow.
Some people experience it maybe when they play sport or music or they're writing or they're involved in a creative craft.
Other people might feel it when they're out in nature or they're experiencing a beautiful piece of artwork.
I just want you to Reflect on that for yourself.
When was it that you had that time of feeling deeply okay?
And then it's about describing in words the best you can.
The quality of that experience,
The emotions you felt during that experience.
And the kinds of emotions and qualities that people come up with are peaceful,
Loving,
Grateful.
Spaciousness,
Freedom,
Relief.
Groundedness,
Flow,
Presence.
I'd be curious if those words resonate with you.
Now,
The thing here is.
.
.
After this recording,
Do this for yourself.
I want you to really reflect on a situation for yourself.
And this is important because I want you to experience what that situation is for you.
So go away and do that now,
And then come back and in the comments,
Just let me know the feelings,
The emotions that come to mind for you.
How would you describe those moments of feeling deeply okay?
What do they feel like for you?
Tomorrow we're going to continue this,
So come back tomorrow and we'll reflect some more.
See you then.
