Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott up on Dartmoor.
Right beside today a wonderful grey stone wall which is bespeckled with emerald green mosses and grasses and brambles and shrubs that are sprouting out from it.
In fact it's such an old wall that there are trees growing up from the middle of it.
So they must have started as little beech nuts falling in between the cracks of the rocks and now after,
I guess,
100,
200 years,
They've become fully-fledged beech trees that are growing out of the wall itself.
Incredible to see.
My reflection today is something that came about from reading a comment from Sandra.
Often,
Sandra leaves some brilliant quotes when she comments on Five Minutes in Nature.
And what she said is something that I want to share with you today.
It's this.
Not be drawn to someone else's storm.
Instead,
They will be drawn to your peace.
And just say that again and want to talk to that today.
When you find your center,
You will not be drawn to someone else's storm.
Instead,
They will be drawn to your peace.
And this really resonates for me because it summarizes so much what I'm about in my life,
For me personally,
But also what I share with my clients.
For example,
A client came in yesterday and was telling me about a meeting that she'd been present at,
Where everybody in that meeting,
There were three other people in the meeting,
All talking over each other,
All revved up in their thinking,
All pretty upset that nobody was listening to them.
And she was there as an observer,
And she got to observe this going on.
And we talked about it and talked about what was going on in the coaching session.
And one of the things I really wanted her to see is that when people are lost in that unsettled thinking,
When they're talking over each other,
When they're not listening,
When they're interrupting,
There is no point stepping into their world,
Stepping into their unsettledness.
There's no point trying to stand with reason or advice or get their attention or try and convince people to see things differently.
The best you've got is to bring your awareness back to that peace within you.
Feel that rootedness,
That groundedness within you and speak from that place.
For me,
That place is a place of love.
For me,
It's about responding from a place of love.
I can respond from a place of love with very firm boundaries and a very clear message.
Responding from love does not mean that I sort of become a doormat and people can walk all over me.
It doesn't mean that at all.
Quite the opposite.
It means that I connect with what feels absolutely right and true for me,
And I then share that in the world.
People will try and get you to come into their world.
They'll tell you stories.
They'll try and enroll you with why they're the victim or why somebody else is in the wrong.
The answer never lies in the stories,
Never ever.
So the best you've got is to find your center.
And when they try and entice you onto that unstable ground,
You stay firm.
You stay firm in your grounding,
In your peace of mind,
In your clarity.
And you speak from that place to the place in them that they've temporarily covered over with their unsettled thinking.
This way of being in the world relies on you understanding that you have peace of mind,
You are love,
And you are from the same essence and source that everybody else is from.
So even when people are upset or nervous or unkind,
That source of peace of mind and clarity and love might be clouded over in their worlds,
But it is still there.
Solidness,
In your groundedness and speak to that in the other person even if they can't see it themselves.
What you tend to find is that at some level it starts to resonate,
It starts to awaken in them,
They start to settle their busy minds and reconnect with that within themselves.
So just want to say I love that quote,
When you find your centre you will not be drawn to someone else's storm,
Instead they will be drawn to your peace.
I love that and I think it's so important to reflect on that in life.
So let me know your reflections on that,
About standing in your centre and not getting drawn into other people's storms.
And don't forget,
Of course,
To join me again tomorrow for another 5 Minutes in Nature.
