Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott.
I'm just sheltering actually,
It's a bit blowy,
Albeit quite muggy today.
There's grey clouds,
A little bit of blue sky.
I'm standing beside some beech trees and the leaves on these trees are turning to yellow and if I turn my back to the trees I can look up onto the hillside itself.
Just admiring the vista of the hillside reaching up right to the sky.
It's a really wonderful day to be out and about.
And today's reflection is all about reminding you about the importance of seeing people,
Hearing people and valuing people.
And it came about when I spoke with a friend and she was finding things really tricky around some just domestic things with her family.
There'd been just a few disagreements and upsets and one of the things she said that felt so frustrating for her is that felt that her family weren't seeing her,
Hearing her or valuing her.
And it made me realize that those three aspects are so important when it comes to actually being present to another human being.
And I know when I become unsettled,
Those three things,
Being seen,
Being heard,
And being valued,
When someone is coming from an authentic place,
Being totally present,
And seeing me,
Hearing me,
And valuing me,
It makes such a difference.
So what do I mean?
I'm going to go through them each in turn and then just love to get your reflections on how you see this in your world.
But often what we do by default is when somebody is upset or unsettled,
We try to fix them,
We try to get them to see life more positively,
To think more positively.
If they've come up with stories about how difficult life is,
We try and give them advice on how they might sort out their life.
What I found is that 99 times out of 100,
When somebody comes to me and they've got a problem,
They're not looking for a solution.
Unless it's a really practical solution to a really practical problem.
If someone is an unsubtle thinking,
The only thing they actually want is to get back in touch with who they truly are.
And the best way you can help them do that is to see them,
Hear them and value them.
And I know for me,
It starts with me.
When I see myself,
When I see myself who I truly am as the essence of the love energy in the world,
And I know that this love energy is the energy that connects us all,
When I see that in me,
I can see that in you.
When I see that in the other person,
I am seeing them for who they truly are.
I'm seeing them beyond the stories of their upsets.
When it comes to hearing,
It's a similar thing.
When I'm hearing someone,
I'm not just hearing the words that they're saying.
I'm not getting lost in their stories.
I'm not trying to sympathize with them.
When I hear someone,
I'm listening beyond what they're saying.
I'm listening beyond the words.
I'm listening to that space that connects us all.
So when I hear that space,
Which is a space that connects me and connects everyone,
Then they can start to hear that for themselves.
So as I hear myself and I hear them at that level,
They start to hear that in themselves too.
And finally,
When I really hear and see someone,
Then I can see their value in the world.
And if it occurs to me in an authentic way to point that out.
Then seeing that value,
Their value,
And pointing that out to them,
It really lands.
It's not like I'm trying to make them feel better or say things that I don't truly believe or I'm just trying to sort of jolly them along.
No,
I'm not talking about that.
When I see a value in them,
Something of value in them from this place of seeing them and hearing them.
The value will naturally come and I can point it out.
Because you see,
When people feel heard and seen,
And they feel their own value,
Then it's like they're growing their own roots into the soil,
And they're feeling rock solid again.
So today's reflection is all about seeing,
Hearing,
And valuing ourselves and others.
Let me know your reflections on that,
And don't forget to join me again tomorrow for another five minutes in nature.
