Hi,
I'm Keziah Gibbons,
She,
Her,
And I'm a psychologically informed environments professional.
And today I'd like to share with you my favorite piece of research about imposter syndrome.
So this research is from Basama Tewfiq.
An assistant professor at MIT Sloan,
And Professor Tewfik did a study on imposter syndrome in medical students.
Who were teaching patients and here's what she said about her findings.
The trainee doctors who experienced more imposter syndrome were more empathetic.
There were better listeners.
They ask better questions.
The imposter students will also observe to hold more frequent eye contact.
Lean forward more.
And better affirm the symptoms their patients described.
In other words,
Those with imposter syndrome were actually better at interpersonal communication and relationship building.
This may be because they were working harder at the relationships because of the imposter syndrome.
Or the correlation may be explained in some other way,
But ultimately,
Those experiencing imposter syndrome were actually doing a better job.
And crucially,
Those who interacted with them felt that those interactions were both more meaningful and more respectful.
It was the late,
Great Maya Angelou who said,
People will forget what you said,
People will forget what you did,
But people will never forget how you made them feel.
So next time you notice the presence of the imposter syndrome.
Just remind yourself it may mean that you're actually motivated to create deeper,
More meaningful and respectful relationships within whatever it is that you're doing,
Leaving a positive impression with those you're interacting with.
And spreading a positive impact in the world.
That's all for now.
Thank you for spending this time with me.
And I wish you a wonderful rest of the day.
May you know how much you're valued by those around you.
