"The Spirit of God is in my nostrils." (Job 27:3) In this practice, we focus attention on the breath. "The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life." (Job 33:4) This is not an easy practice. The mind, by habit, wanders. We post a sentinel at the entrance of the nostrils like the watchman Christ spoke of in parable. (Mat 24:42) It may be challenging to remain vigilant. Again, we return to scripture for encouragement: "With God, all things are possible."

Rant Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.

May this guided meditation be a blessing to you.

As a spiritual discipline,

Meditation improves connectivity between those structural nodes in the brain that mediate attention,

Emotions,

And self-regulation generally.

With improved focus and concentration we can etch the word of God in our hearts and live it as best we may.

So where Christ enjoins us to be still or fear not,

To watch or judge not,

We can use meditation to train the mind to obedience.

This guided practice will use verses to cultivate the faith we need to discipline the mind.

With God all things are possible and I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

We use the breath as an anchor for the mind to hold onto.

As it is written,

All the while the breath is in me and the Spirit of God is in my nostrils.

So keep the attention there at the entrance of the nose.

Assume an alert and dignified posture.

Fear the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwelleth in you.

And approach with reverence,

With gratitude,

Confidence,

Love.

Focus attention on the nostrils.

All the while the breath is in me and the Spirit of God is in my nostrils.

God is that close,

The breath of the breath.

In him we live,

Move and have our being.

The source of thought is also the source of breath and the vital force.

Continue watching.

Breath coming in,

Breath going out.

The Spirit of God is in my nostrils.

Be like the watchman Christ spoke of in the parable.

Watch for ye know not what hour the thief doth come.

Watch ye therefore.

Focus attention on the breath.

Attention may wander.

Attention may leave his post.

Be gentle and patient with yourself.

It will take many thousands of hours of practice to keep the mind single pointedly on the breath.

Discipline and control over mind is not your birthright,

But it is a choice.

So we turn again to scripture for confidence.

With God all things are possible.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

This is the practice of strengthening the mind.

With God all things are possible.

A disciplined mind is possible.

A compassionate and forgiving heart is possible.

Keep returning to the breath.

The Spirit of God is in my nostrils.

Attention on the breath at the entrance of the nostrils as it comes in,

As it goes out.

Feeling the touch sensation of the breath as it comes in,

As it goes out.

Feeling the breath in,

Escorting it out.

Love concentration.

With God I can cultivate equanimity.

Taking refuge in Him.

Do not be dismayed.

A wandering mind is natural.

It's the default state.

But the mind is ours to train.

Ours to transform.

Remaining vigilant,

Alert,

Attentive.

The breath coming in,

I'm aware the breath is going in.

There's a slight pause.

Breath goes out,

I'm aware the breath is going out.

All the while the breath is in me and the Spirit of God is in my nostrils.

Another breath comes in,

I'm aware it's coming in.

It goes out and I follow it out.

A slight pause and another breath comes in.

All the while the breath is in me and the Spirit of God is in my nostrils.

Breath goes out.

When I'm feeling discouraged or frustrated,

I remind myself,

With God all things are possible.

It is possible to train the mind but it does take your effort,

It does take time,

It does take diligence,

Perseverance,

Patience.

So be gentle with yourself.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Following the breath in as it comes in,

Following the breath out as it goes out.

Be there for.

Remaining vigilant.

Attentive.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Here I'm strengthening spiritual gifts of patience,

Of compassion,

Attentiveness,

Concentration,

Faith.
