Welcome to this guided meditation on cultivating Zen through the Enso Circle Drawing Meditation.
The Enso Circle Drawing practice is a form of meditation that involves drawing a circle with a calligraphy or a paintbrush,
Similar to other practices such as learning to play a musical instrument or taking a daily walk.
The Enso Circle Drawing practice requires repetition and regularity.
Through this consistent practice,
You can enjoy and experience benefits similar to those of traditional meditation,
Including a feeling of calm,
Peace,
And joy.
However,
The act of drawing the Enso Circle can also be done simply for the sake of the practice itself,
Without any attachment to any specific outcome.
When drawing the Enso Circle,
Remember that there are no fixed starting points.
You can begin anywhere on the page.
It is a form of moving meditation,
A discipline that helps you relax your mind and immerse yourself in a state of focus and absorption.
With practice,
You may find yourself settling into a natural state of being.
Now,
Let's explore how to practice drawing the Enso Circle.
For this practice,
You'll need some paper,
A brush,
And some ink or some paint.
Take the next couple of moments to prepare these materials and get comfortable.
As you begin,
Bring your full awareness and presence to the process.
This attention extends beyond the actual brushstroke,
But also includes the process of setting up the space that you will be painting in,
The preparing of your ink or paint,
And the laying out of your sheet of paper.
You might put a weight on top,
On the corners of your paper to make sure it is flat,
And you might moisten your brush and bring it to a point.
As you engage in these activities,
Let these help you enter into the state of mindful awareness.
Once you are seated and ready,
Carefully dip your brush into the paint or ink and bring it to a point.
As you hold gently the bottom of the page with your non-drawing hand,
Make sure that the paper remains still.
Take a moment to notice your posture.
As you exhale,
Your shoulders to be relaxed.
As you inhale,
Allow your back to be straight.
And now draw your awareness to your breath,
Allowing yourself to tune in and focus on the rhythm of your breath.
With this mindful preparation,
Begin drawing your Ensole Circle.
Be fully present in each stroke,
Feeling the movement of the brush as it glides across the page.
Notice the sensations,
Any sounds,
And the rhythm of your breathing as you immerse yourself in the process.
Let go of any expectations of judgments and be with the experience of drawing the circle.
After completing one circle,
Gently set your brush down and take a moment to observe what you've created.
Allow yourself to appreciate the uniqueness of this circle without comparing or analyzing.
Then set your circle aside and reset your workspace and your posture with the same mindful intention as before.
Repeat this process on another sheet of paper,
Drawing another Ensole Circle,
Immersing yourself in the present moment,
Stroke by stroke.
As you continue drawing the Ensole Circles,
Notice any thoughts,
Judgments,
Or distractions that arise.
As you notice the thoughts,
Judgments,
Or distractions that arise,
Acknowledge them and gently guide your awareness and your focus back to the brush and the movement of drawing.
Let each circle become an opportunity to cultivate mindfulness and your full presence.
Train your mind to stay anchored in each present moment.
Continue this practice for the next few minutes,
Allowing yourself to fully engage in the process of drawing the Ensole Circles.
Embrace each stroke with awareness,
Each circle a manifestation of your focused presence.
If and when your mind wanders,
Gently guide it back to the brush and the paper,
Returning to the here and now.
As we near the end of this meditation,
Take a moment to appreciate the practice you have engaged in.
Notice any subtle shifts in your state of being,
Any feelings of calm,
Peace,
Or joy that may have arisen.
Remember that the Ensole Circle Drawing Meditation practice is not about achieving a specific outcome,
But about embracing the experience and the process unfolding in each passing moment.
When you feel ready,
Gently let this meditation come to a close.
Take a few deep breaths in and long breaths out,
Allowing your mind and your body to fully relax.
Carry this sense of calm and ease you've cultivated during your Ensole Circle Drawing Meditation into the rest of your day,
Knowing that you can return to this practice whenever you seek a moment of tranquility and connection with each passing moment.
May your practice continue to deepen and may you find peace and presence in every stroke of your brush.
