Welcome to this Earth Element Yoga Nidra to ground and support you through challenging transitions.
The Earth Element is the element that bridges the four seasons.
It keeps you centered and empowers you to flourish through transitions and transformation.
When in balance,
It manifests in the form of contentment and a feeling of being at home anywhere and in any moment of your life.
When out of balance,
It can manifest as worry,
Overthinking and guilt which may inhibit authentic self-expression.
It may be hard for you to set healthy boundaries and ensure your own needs and desires are getting met.
This worry may also surface in the form of people-pleasing behaviors or feeling that you've been giving so much to others that you have little or nothing left for yourself.
Do you feel guilty about prioritizing your needs and tend to instead default to putting others ahead of yourself?
The antidote to this overthinking,
Worry and guilt is to remind yourself of this truth.
The most important person in your life is you.
You might be a mother,
A caregiver for someone else,
A leader of a community or an important person whom others rely on.
Regardless of whatever situation or relationship you find yourself in,
The most precious and important relationship you have is the one you have with yourself.
And the most important person in your life is you.
Today,
To acknowledge and honor this truth,
To release guilt and overthinking,
I invite you to engage in the revolutionary act of prioritizing yourself,
Allowing yourself the right to rest.
We've been taught and told that we rest so we can show up better,
Especially for others.
But what would it be to let go of that story?
Resting?
Simply to acknowledge and honor the basic human right you have to rest.
Resting to acknowledge and honor that you are the most important person in your life.
Give yourself permission right now to rest.
Take the next couple of moments to get really comfortable.
You can adjust your clothing,
Prepare any cushions,
Pillows,
Blankets,
Anything you need.
Once we're in the practice of Yuga Nidra,
You will want to remain still for the full duration.
Settle in and invite a sense of stillness and calm.
Close your eyes and guide your awareness to your breath.
Without changing your breath,
Notice it.
Notice the rise and fall of your breath at your belly.
Notice the sacred,
Natural,
Effortless rhythm.
Unhurried,
Unrestricted.
Stay with the rise and the fall of your breath.
Witness its ebb and flow.
Your inhale releases into your exhale and your exhale surrenders into your inhale.
With each exhale,
Allow yourself to yield,
To release the weight of your worries,
To let go of any unfinished tasks,
Responsibilities and obligations to be fulfilled.
Temporarily release any roles you are playing,
Any responsibilities you have for others and allow yourself to be you.
And with each inhale,
Feel the support of Mother Earth holding you.
Feel that in this moment,
In this space,
There is no one more precious,
More important than you.
In Yuga Nidra,
We work with a Sankalpa.
A Sankalpa is a positive I AM statement that is true at the core of who you are.
It is your essence simplified into a short positive I AM statement.
Your Sankalpa to surface in the center of your being.
Once your Sankalpa has formed,
Repeat it quietly to yourself three times.
And if no Sankalpa comes to surface,
Then allow an openness to whatever guidance your inner teacher,
Your heart,
Has to offer you.
Remain aware of my voice and be still throughout the remainder of this practice.
The practice of Yuga Nidra begins now.
Guide your awareness to your breath.
Experience your breath as it is.
Follow its natural rhythm without altering it.
Experience the rhythm of your breath as if your whole body is breathing.
Sparkling prana.
Feel this vital life force flowing in and out with each cycle of your breath.
Let this renewed energy saturate your being with each inhale and gently subside with each exhale.
Each inhale radiating and reaching fullness and then giving away to the exhale.
Experience the expansion and contraction of your breath like the pulsation of the beating heart of Mother Earth herself.
Become aware of your breath as a dear friend.
This friend you've known for so long.
You've known since the moment you were born.
Feel your breath leaving and entering effortlessly.
And for the next nine breaths,
Count each of your exhales from nine to zero.
If you lose count of the counting,
It doesn't matter.
What matters is that you let your mind rest with each exhale.
Let's begin.
We now begin to guide the light of mental awareness around your physical body as if your body is like the fertile soil and land of the earth.
At each point your consciousness lands,
It is like a little ray of light that brightens the soil,
Illuminating and rejuvenating the earth.
We begin at the tip of your tongue,
The root of your tongue,
The roof of your mouth,
The bottom of your mouth,
The inside of the left cheek,
Inside of the right cheek,
Your left ear,
The lobe of the ear,
The shell of the ear.
Let little rays of light land and brighten the whole of your left ear,
Your right ear,
The lobe of the ear,
The shell of the ear,
Inside and all around your right ear,
Little rays of light lighten up and brighten your right ear,
The back of your head,
The crown of your head,
Your right eyebrow,
Left eyebrow,
Right eye,
Left eye,
The space between your eyebrow center,
The bridge of your nose,
The tip of your nose,
Your right cheek,
Your left cheek,
Your upper lip and your lower lip and all along your jaw.
Let little rays of light land and brighten the soil that is your jaw and your chin,
The center of your throat,
Your right collarbone,
Left collarbone,
Your right shoulder,
Arm,
Elbow,
Forearm,
Wrist and the center of your right hand,
All five of your fingers of your right hand,
The thumb,
Index finger,
Middle finger,
Ring finger and your little finger,
Your left shoulder,
Arm,
Elbow,
Forearm,
Wrist,
Center of the palm and all five of the fingers of your left hand,
Your thumb,
Index finger,
Middle finger,
Ring finger and your little finger,
The center of your heart,
Your navel center,
Your right hip and your left hip,
Your right thigh,
Knee,
Calf,
Ankle,
Heel,
Rainbow arch of your right foot,
Ball of your right foot and all five of the toes of your right foot,
The big toe,
Second toe,
Third toe,
Fourth toe and your little toe,
Your left thigh,
Knee,
Calf,
Ankle,
Heel,
Rainbow arch of your left foot,
The ball of your left foot and all five of the toes of your left foot,
Your big toe,
Second toe,
Third toe,
Fourth toe and your little toe,
From head to toe,
From toes to head,
The fertile soil and land of the earth that is your body is now illuminated by the light of your consciousness.
With your next exhale,
Feel heavy,
Descending like the sun's rays,
Shining and pouring down on the earth.
With your next inhale,
Feel light,
Floating like carbon dioxide,
Oxygen and air upwards to the sky.
Exhaling,
Feeling heavy,
Like light pouring down on the earth.
Inhaling,
Feeling light,
Like the air particles floating upwards towards the heavens,
Towards the sky.
Continue to alternate between these extremes,
A feeling of heaviness as you exhale and a feeling of lightness as you inhale for the next five breaths.
Now wherever you are,
Invite both extremes,
A feeling that you are both heavy,
Like the sun's rays shining and pouring down on the earth,
And at the same time,
You are light,
Like the air particles floating upwards towards the heavens,
Towards the sky.
Feel both of these experiences simultaneously in your consciousness.
Now gently let go of this practice and notice the natural weight,
Shape and form of your physical body.
Feel held by the earth herself.
Guide your awareness to the center of your heart.
In the center of your heart,
Feel and see a shimmering well of light,
A little sun in the center of your heart.
With your next inhale,
Allow this light to gather inwards.
And with your next exhale,
Let this light radiate outwards.
With your next inhale,
Allow this light to gather inwards.
And as you exhale,
Let this light radiate outwards.
Continue to alternate between both of these experiences,
Gathering light inwards.
With your inhale,
And letting light radiate outwards.
As you exhale,
For the next 5 breaths,
Both extremes,
A feeling that you are both gathering light inwards,
And at the same time,
Letting this light radiate outwards.
Feel both of these experiences simultaneously in your consciousness.
Gently let go of this practice and notice the natural texture,
Quality and length of your breath.
I will now describe images to you.
Experience them without attachment and allow them to wash over you.
The gentle glow of the setting sun,
The last hour before sunset,
The golden hour.
You see a winding path cutting through vast golden cornfields.
Someone's footsteps line the trail.
You follow the footsteps with a steady and hurried pace.
All of nature's harvest is cast in a warm golden amber hue.
The vastness of the late summer landscape stretches out before you.
All is ripe,
Juicy and abundant.
You walk closer and you see a wide stretch of vibrant sunflower fields.
The sun's rays dances off the smiling face of each sunflower.
Your breath in sync with the gentle swaying of the petals.
You approach the heart of the sunflower field.
With each gentle,
Patient step,
Little ladybugs scurry away.
You stop and take off your hat.
The sun's gentle golden rays kiss your skin.
A sense of contentment saturates your consciousness.
You notice a sunflower with dried petals,
Its face rich and ready for seed harvest.
Your fingers tenderly cradle the sunflower's neck.
Your thumb gently brushes across the face of the sunflower.
Tiny little seeds dislodge and fall into your palm.
Your fingers feel their firm yet tender texture.
You place a tiny seed inside your mouth.
As you savor this seed,
A mild,
Tender sweetness spreads slowly.
You recognize a familiar taste.
It's the taste of your sankalpa.
Repeat your sankalpa internally to yourself.
Savor it in the deepest layers of your being with meaning and intention.
Become open to whatever guidance your heart,
Your inner teacher has to offer you.
Allow an embodied experience of your heartfelt guidance,
This wisdom as your lived reality.
See it as you are.
Hear to slowly become more audible.
If you wish,
You may gently let your body move with your breath.
Let these sounds and the sound of my voice awaken you to a more everyday state of consciousness.
The practice of Yoganadra is now complete.
You may gently rise and stretch.
Savor your heartfelt intention,
Your heartfelt wisdom and bring this with you into the rest of your day.
