Lo que aprenderás
This course is designed to help participants engage bible texts that undergird the ideas and practices of Lent. Lent is a 40-day season of reflection, repentance, and preparation leading up to Easter, commemorating Jesus’ time of fasting in the wilderness and His ultimate sacrifice for humanity. It is a time for Christians to grow closer to God through prayer, fasting, and acts of charity, focusing on spiritual renewal and self-discipline. In this course we will focus on the spiritual renewal. No matter where you are in your journey, renewal is always invited through engaging the spirit with intentionality. I am excited to engage with participants so there will be a prompt and questions following each session.

Lección 1
Session One: Matthew 6:16-18
Lent encourages authentic practices of fasting and devotion, seeking God’s approval rather than human recognition. So we start here because we have an audience of One this lent season. As you do this course and any other lent traditions, you are choosing your spiritual path.
Lección 2
Session Two: Joel 2:12-13
Lent calls us to turn our hearts to God in genuine response to how God is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. This description of the character of God makes repentance genuine and safe.
Lección 3
Session Three: Isaiah 58:6-7
Lent is traditionally a time of fasting. However, the scriptures tell us that true fasting is more than abstaining from food; it involves actively working for justice and showing compassion. What is the role of justice in your Lenten season?
Lección 4
Session Four: Psalm 51:10-12
This prayer is a central theme of the season of Lent, seeking renewal and closeness with God. We have the privilege of being in the presence of God and this scripture guides us into not taking that for granted.
Lección 5
Session Five: Romans 12:1-2
Lent is an opportunity to offer ourselves fully to God and allow for the transformation of our minds and hearts. The renewing of our mind is towards God who is good, slow to anger, and abounding in love.
Lección 6
Session Six: Philippians 2:5-8
Lent calls us to emulate Christ’s humility and obedience, preparing our hearts to fully grasp the significance of His sacrifice. It can feel counterintuitive but humility and obedience is the path to the renewing of our hearts and minds.
Lección 7
Final Session: 2 Corinthians 5:20-21
Lent is a time to embrace reconciliation with God, made possible through Christ’s sacrifice. Our reconciliation with God is not the end of the story. Our lives are in service to the world as reconciled and reconcilers.

I highly recommend this 7 day course. Jess’s voice is conversational with ample space for reflection.. The piano music is the perfect accompaniment to the session prompts. Thank you Jess.
