Welcome to the morning meditation,
Awaken my soul.
Today is the most precious and most common aspect of our lives.
Another new day.
We never know whether this day will forever change the course of our lives or be completely forgettable in the grand story of our days.
We can however be committed to being the best version of ourselves and become intentional about what is most important.
To do that we need to awaken our soul much like we awaken our bodies.
We need a spiritual good breakfast.
We need a morning shower for the soul.
My name is Jess and I wrestled with being daily committed to meditation and I hope this time we'll meet you and set a course for your day.
To begin let's take a moment just to feel yourself breathe.
Calm your heart and mind.
Feel your body breathe and feel the movement of your body as you breathe.
Be mindful of any sounds and thoughts that come.
Take 60 seconds to be your own company.
Pay attention to just you and let yourself feel whatever is going on in your heart and mind.
Take 60 seconds to be your own company.
Early on,
We learned to count using our fingers.
We're going to do the same today as a way of intention setting and keeping track of what we may want to be committed to today.
We'll take 90 seconds.
If your mind wanders,
That's okay.
Just bring your attention back to your fingers and to the exercise.
Using your fingers,
Count the five most important things about today.
They may be practical,
Like your 10 a.
M.
Meeting,
Or philosophical,
Like loving your neighbor or being present with your kids.
It may be something you're anxious about and you want to see how it unfolds.
Don't overthink it.
Let whatever is on the top of your mind come up.
If you don't get to five,
That's not the point.
The point is to name it.
So take a minute and a half to think on what's most important to you today and count them on your fingers.
Got it?
Could you say out loud what each finger represents?
Now pick one and meditate on why it raises to the level of central concern for you.
Why is it important to you?
What does this one thing say about who you are and who you want to be?
Now let's turn our attention in a different direction.
Let's focus on our action and behavior today.
What is one thing that you would like to do above and beyond your normal routine so that you can feel like you have been the best version of yourself?
Maybe it's related to one of the five most important things,
But it doesn't have to be.
What's one thing that you can do above and beyond your normal routine to be the best version of yourself?
What is one thing that you can do above and beyond your normal routine to be the best version of yourself?
Finally,
Let's zoom out and take a big picture look at our lives.
For the next 45 seconds,
Think deeply about how you're seeing yourself grow lately,
Or perhaps ponder the question,
How do I want to see myself grow in the upcoming season of my life?
As we wrap up,
Can you look at your hand and remember your five things?
Don't forget them.
Revisit them today.
Be a little more intentional about one thing and take the small steps to becoming who you most want to be.
Welcome to a new day.
Awaken our soul and guide us on this most precious and common gift this single new day.
You.
