My name is Eden,
And I am a meditation guide.
Reiki master teacher.
And a licensed therapist.
And today we're going to be exploring another one of EMDR's classic resourcing tools.
This is for you to use as a balm or a band-aid.
To just help process your day to both cope and continually self-regulate.
Perhaps this is between EMDR sessions with a therapist.
Or are you just wanting to explore the modality a little bit further?
And this is a really beautiful resourcing technique that we'll go into deeper here.
Yet I want to first say that there's no way to do these wrong.
And one tool might work really well for one person and differently for another.
And perhaps even you'll notice in your daily living when you reach for this tool.
Sometimes it works well.
And other times it doesn't quite hit the mark.
Know that that's okay,
That's good information just to take in.
And get to know yourself and your needs and your strategies just a little bit more.
So today we're going to be practicing what's known as this spiral technique.
And this is one of my personal favorites as a somatic practitioner.
But know that it's also the least common to resonate with folks.
So again,
Knowing that if this doesn't resonate,
You are not doing it wrong.
You're just collecting information as to what works well for you.
So we invite in this curious spirit.
And this reframe of this just being a little internal experiment today.
So go ahead and start to invite in some comfort into your body.
Maybe that's taking a few gentle movements,
Finding stillness.
Perhaps closing the eyes down or just letting the eyes soften into the peripherals.
And taking a few slow or deeper breaths now on purpose.
Relaxing any tense muscles in the body you can notice.
I'm just starting to invite in a bit of spaciousness in your mind,
In your body.
As you connect a little deeper and more on purpose to this moment.
Deep breath in and letting it go.
And just starting to now invite in a slightly disturbing memory.
Something that kind of lights up your body.
Something that still elicits emotion when you remember it.
And keeping this fairly small,
Perhaps a recent fight you had or.
.
.
A little bit of road rage,
Perhaps?
Just starting to let yourself access that memory more overtly here.
Allowing the emotion to arrive.
For your mind to remember the scene.
I'm starting to notice any bodily sensations that are also arriving as you are brave enough to just gently put yourself back in that moment for a few breaths.
Allowing your system to come online.
And just noticing where in your body you're feeling these sensations.
Tuning in.
And as you move your awareness pointedly to that place in the body,
Where the memory is eliciting this physical,
Visceral response.
Can you start to imagine that bodily sensation as energy?
And if it were to be moving in a circular pattern,
The spiral pattern,
Might you be sensing or imagining it to be moving clockwise?
Or counterclockwise.
Knowing there's no wrong answers,
Just inviting in this imaginal sense.
Or perhaps you even feel it moving in this way in your body now.
Taking a few breaths here as you just notice this spiral,
This swirl,
This direction.
And now begin to ask that the spiral starts to move in the opposite direction.
If it was clockwise,
Starting to imagine it moves counterclockwise,
And vice versa.
Can you let your mind invent this new feeling,
Seeing this new vision in your mind's eyes?
Experimenting with this here.
Can you sense it?
Can you imagine it?
Can you even feel it now?
Good.
And if you're able to now imagine that spiral moving in the opposite direction,
We just gently start to release that visual slightly and step back into the physical body,
Noticing any sensations that are still alive here.
That we're informing the spiral.
Anything new,
Anything familiar.
No wrong answers.
And then gently backing up one more step,
Allowing yourself to bring that memory back online more overtly here.
And just seeing if there's any sort of.
.
.
New or residual relationship here with this memory.
What changes can you notice in your interaction with this slightly disturbing memory?
What shifts can you notice in the body as you bring it up on purpose again after switching the direction of that energetic spiral?
Of that visceral reaction.
Being curious here.
Letting that curiosity be enough.
Deep breath in and soft breath out.
A few more just like that,
Starting to release the memory.
Releasing this personal mental experiment.
Good.
And just allowing yourself to tap back in gently to the physical body as it exists in your current environment.
Taking a few breaths to thank yourself for just trying this resource out.
And if you did find that it elicited a shift within you.
.
.
And perhaps even if it didn't.
.
.
You can reach for this tool to keep working with it,
Exploring it,
Experimenting with it through your daily living.
So when an old memory pops up or a new moment eliciting a response.
Just seeing if you can remember to reach for this tool.
And seeing if it offers you any bit of relief.
Through coping,
Through regulation.
And just seeing if it's something that you want to solidify into your tool belt.
And now you have it to work with.
So thanking yourself for this curiosity,
This showing up,
This willingness,
And carrying that forward into your daily living.
And if your eyes are still closed,
You can gently blink them back open,
Coming back to this day more fully.
Welcome back!
And Be well.
