Hi,
I'm Caitlin Clark.
Welcome.
Today,
I'd like to share a little bit about what embodiment is and lead you through a short practice.
Embodiment really is about the relationship that we have with our body.
So often,
Our lives are spent living from our neck up,
Thinking and analyzing,
Fixing and problem-solving,
Attending to things outside of ourself.
Embodiment is really a gentle shift inward so we can get to know ourselves and listen to our thoughts,
To our emotions,
To our inner wonderings.
With curiosity and openness,
It's not about fixing anything or performing,
Just listening.
And over time,
This listening allows us to live with more ease and clarity,
Guided from a deeper sense of what really works for us.
And so as we begin,
This practice can actually feel a little uncomfortable or unfamiliar because we spend so much time outside of ourselves,
Living from the neck up.
And so the invitation here is just to welcome everything that arises as best you can,
Even if it's a little bit edgy or uncomfortable.
Let's give it a shot.
Taking a breath and settling into your body and just start by noticing your feet.
Wherever they happen to be,
Maybe place them gently on the floor beneath you if you're sitting or standing.
Allow your eyes to come to a soft close or a gentle gaze.
And already you may naturally begin to shift your attention to your breath.
And so if it's not already there,
Go ahead and shift it there now,
Noticing wherever your breath is strongest for you along your breath pathway.
Perhaps at your belly as your abdomen fills and empties with air.
At your chest as your lungs expand and release.
Or your nostrils as air rushes in and out over your top lip.
Wherever the sensation is most accessible for you,
Go there now.
Bringing that gentle open curiosity of whatever is here in this moment.
And if your attention wanders away,
That's okay.
That's just what the mind does.
When you notice that your awareness has wandered away,
Gently bring it back to the breath once more without getting too involved.
And while you're noticing your breath,
You may notice two thoughts,
Emotions,
Other sensations,
Calling for your attention.
And you may meet those two with a gentle sense of curiosity and openness.
But all is welcome.
All of you is welcome.
And for a moment falling even further back still to notice the one who is noticing the deeper sense of self.
Witnessing these experiences just as they are.
Inviting a deeper gentle breath into your abdomen and chest now.
Gently opening your eyes coming fully back,
Fully back now.
Feeling more grounded and connected to yourself.
Knowing that you can come back to this practice at any time.
Embodiment doesn't need to be complicated.
Embodiment can be a pause,
A breath,
A gentle listening inward.
Thanks so much for practicing with me today.
Be well.
