There is a difference between experiencing stress and carrying stress.
A stressful moment can last a few minutes,
But sometimes the body continues holding on to that moment long after it has passed.
The shoulders stay tense,
The jaw stays tight,
The breath stays shallow,
And the mind keeps searching for the next problem.
And eventually,
Getting slightly tense begins to feel normal.
And today we're going to interrupt that pattern.
We're not going to force yourself to relax.
We're allowing your body to finally release what has been carrying.
So find a comfortable position.
And then close your eyes.
Before changing anything,
Notice your body exactly as it is.
Notice your jaw.
Your shoulders,
Your chest.
Stomach.
Your hands.
And ask yourself quietly.
.
.
Where am I holding stress right now?
Don't think about the answer,
Feel it.
Maybe there's pressure,
Tightness,
Heaviness,
Restlessness.
A knot somewhere inside you.
Find the place that seems to be carrying the most.
And bring your attention there.
And take a slow breath in through your nose.
And exhale through the mouth.
Take a deep breath in and out.
And this time,
Breathe out with a sigh.
One more time,
Inhale deeply.
Let it go.
Good.
Now allow your breathing to return to normal and imagine something for me.
Imagine that all the stress you've been carrying has a physical weight.
Every responsibility.
Every deadline.
Every conversation.
Every expectation.
Every time you kept going,
Even though part of you wanted to stop.
Imagine that weight has been sitting on your body.
Maybe cross your shoulders.
Maybe across your chest.
Maybe around your stomach.
Feel it for a moment here.
You don't need to pretend it isn't there.
You don't need to immediately turn it into something positive.
Just acknowledge it.
This has been a lot.
And now,
Imagine putting that weight down.
Not solving it,
Not fixing it,
Just putting it down for 10 minutes.
You don't have to carry it.
Feel your shoulders physically drop.
Unclench your jaw.
Relax your tongue.
Soften your hands and let your stomach expand naturally as you breathe.
Now take a slow breath in for 4,
3,
2,
1.
Breathe out for 6,
5,
4,
3,
2,
1.
Again in for 4,
3,
2,
1.
And out for 6,
5,
4,
3,
2,
1.
Keep breathing like this.
And with every exhale imagine tension leaving your body.
Feel it physically,
Your muscles releasing,
Your shoulders lowering,
Your belly softening,
And your heartbeat settling.
Your entire system receiving a different message.
I don't need to respond right now.
Breathe out.
I don't need to solve anything right now.
And breathe out.
I don't need to prepare for what's next.
And breathe out.
For this moment,
It can simply be here.
Now bring your awareness to the place where you felt the stress most strongly and imagine breathing directly into that area.
As you inhale,
Create space around the tension.
As you exhale,
Let the tension spread out,
Loosen,
Soften,
Dissolve.
Again,
Breathing space into the tension.
And releasing.
You may notice that underneath stress there's always something else.
Fatigue,
Frustration,
Fear,
Pressure,
Sadness.
Maybe simply the feeling of,
I've been doing too much for too long.
Whatever it is,
You don't need to change it.
Let your body finally be honest.
And quietly say,
I hear you.
You don't have to shout anymore.
I'm listening now.
Take another slow breath and exhale completely.
Now imagine your entire nervous system beginning to turn down its internal volume.
From 10,
To 9,
To 8,
The constant readiness beginning to soften.
7,
6,
5,
Your muscles realizing they don't need to brace,
4,
3,
Your breathing becoming easier,
3,
2,
1 and now imagine the space inside your body after stress has left.
Not empty,
Open.
Quiet.
Spacious.
Feel what it's like to exist without carrying everything at once.
You can care about your life without carrying your entire life in your body.
You can't have responsibilities without holding them in your shoulders.
Can have uncertainty without storing it in your stomach.
You can't have things to do without your nervous system behaving as though everything is an emergency.
Not everything is urgent.
Not everything needs my attention right now.
I'm allowed to rest.
I am allowed to recover.
I am allowed to feel good before everything is finished.
Take a deeper breath in.
And slowly breathe out and feel your body now compared to the beginning.
Maybe the change is big,
Maybe it's subtle.
Both are enough.
Because every time you practice coming out of stress,
You're reminding your body that stress is a state it can enter,
And also a state it can leave.
You're not trying to create a life without stress.
You are teaching your body not to live there.
One final breath.
Inhale slowly.
As your exhale,
Let go of anything you don't need to carry into the next moment.
Let your shoulders drop.
Let your face soften.
Feel your body underneath you.
And remember,
You don't have to wait until everything is done to relax.
You don't have to earn rest.
You don't have to carry tomorrow today.
For now,
You are here,
Breathing,
Present,
And a little lighter than before.
When you're ready,
Slowly open your eyes and carry the softness with you.
