This calming meditation will encourage your child to imagine themselves as an "Emotions Explorer" where they will visit and explore "Happy Land", "Sad Land", "Angry Land", "Excited Land" and "Worried Land". I will guide them through what each of these emotions feels like, normalize them and also share some ways to productively process them!

Hi there,

This is Cynthia.

Today I'm going to be taking you on an incredible adventure where we will be exploring our different emotions.

Are you ready?

Close your eyes now if that feels right for you and let your entire body start to relax from head to toe.

I want you to imagine now that you are a world explorer and you are packing your bag to go on an exciting adventure.

You put on your favorite Explorer outfit.

You grab your brown Explorer hat,

Your sunglasses and your boots.

You pack your bag full of water,

Snacks and even your binoculars.

What else do you think you'll need?

Go ahead and add it to your bag now.

You're all packed and it's time to go.

Our first stop today is Happyland.

Happyland is yellow and bright and full of joy.

Take a look around.

The sun is warm and shining here.

You instantly feel happiness all throughout your body.

It makes you smile and laugh a little bit too.

You might feel happy when you see someone you love,

When you eat your favorite food or when someone gives you a kind gift.

Can you think of a time where you felt happy?

Our second stop today is Sadland.

Sadland is dark and gray.

There are lots of clouds here.

When you are sad,

You feel down,

Negative or unhappy.

You might feel sad when someone is mean to you,

When you don't get something that you want or when your toy breaks.

We all feel sad sometimes.

Can you think of a time when you felt sad?

Our third stop today is Angryland.

Angryland is red,

Full of volcanoes that look like they are going to erupt.

Your anger is kind of like a volcano.

The anger inside of you builds and builds until you explode where you might yell or cry or scream.

Anger is very normal.

It happens to all of us.

It might happen to you when you feel frustrated,

When you don't get something that you want.

Can you think of a time now when you felt angry?

Our fourth stop today is Excitedland.

Excitedland is orange and cheerful,

Full of balloons and party poppers.

You might feel excited when you're looking forward to your birthday,

Before playing with a friend or right before your favorite holiday.

Getting excited makes you feel like you want the thing to come sooner.

Can you think of a time when you felt excited?

Our fifth and final stop today is Nervousland.

Nervousland is purple.

It's full of waves and unknown little creatures.

When you are nervous you might feel worried about something.

Maybe an upcoming party,

Something at school or maybe being around a particular person.

Being nervous is a very normal feeling.

Everyone feels nervous sometimes.

Can you think of a time where you felt nervous?

You might visit one of these lands a day or maybe you visit all of them.

Our emotions come and go throughout the day like waves in the ocean.

It's very normal to feel different kinds of emotions all the time.

My favorite thing to do is to tell someone I love which land I am in.

So for example,

If you are feeling angry like a volcano,

You could tell a grown up that you are in angry land so they can help guide you through something calming to help you feel better.

We can also practice slow deep breaths by inhaling through our nose like we are smelling a flower and letting out a nice long exhale like you are blowing out birthday candles.

Can you try one for me now?

Inhale through your nose like you are smelling a beautiful rose and then let out a nice long exhale like you are blowing out birthday candles on a cake.

You did such an incredible job today joining me as an emotions explorer.

I will see you next time.
