Welcome to this nighttime meditation that will help you to feel calm,

Peaceful,

And to sleep well tonight.

So find yourself a comfortable position.

Close your eyes.

Or maybe even put your hands over your eyes,

Whatever makes you feel the most relaxed.

Taking in a nice deep breath through your nose like you are smelling a flower and letting out a big exhale from your mouth like you are blowing out birthday candles.

Letting yourself sink right into the surface that you are on and allowing your body to feel limp and relaxed.

Taking in another big breath in through your nose,

Feeling your belly rise and letting out a big exhale from your mouth.

Imagine yourself now standing in the middle of a beautiful green forest.

You can feel the warm sun on your face and hear the birds chirping all around you.

Breathe in the fresh forest air.

Breathe it out.

You feel so peaceful and so safe in this place.

Look around.

What animals can you see in this forest?

What noises are they making?

Look at all of the colorful flowers around you and pick one up now.

Smell it.

What do you smell?

This is the most green,

Colorful,

And full of life forest you have ever seen.

You decide to take a short rest from your walk.

You see a big tree in front of you and you decide to walk over to it and sit down and rest your back against it.

Suddenly you hear a voice above you.

It's a big blue bird on the tree above and he can talk.

He's wearing a pair of sunglasses which seems very odd to you.

You're not scared of him because he seems very gentle and kind.

He tells you that he's an old bird with no family of his own and he would like to pass on a gift to you today.

You are the lucky chosen one.

He wants to give you his sunglasses.

He tells you that these are his super power sunglasses.

Each time that you wear these sunglasses you get one super power to use.

So go on,

Give them a try.

When you put them on,

You take a deep breath and boom,

All of a sudden you feel the need to jump into the air.

You stay there.

You are flying.

The sunglasses have given you the powers to fly.

Take a few minutes to try out your new super power.

Have fun in the air.

How does it feel?

Can you feel the wind in your hair?

Breathe in the fresh air all the way up in the sky and breathe it out.

You are having the time of your life.

It's time to land now so you return to the big tree and you return the glasses to the kind bird who gave them to you.

He says,

Wait,

Put them back on one more time.

Before you go,

I want to show you one more super power that you have.

You are so excited that you get to try out one more.

This one is different,

He says.

This super power is something you can use every day,

All day.

You put the sunglasses back on and you instantly feel like taking a big,

Big,

Deep breath in through your nose,

Out through your mouth.

You then take another big breath.

You've never felt so calm,

Relaxed and happy.

The bird tells you that this super power is your breath.

You do it automatically all day,

Every day,

But we very rarely take the long,

Deep ones.

The long,

Deep ones help to keep us calm in stressful situations and they help us to make better decisions day after day.

You are so happy and grateful that you found this very practical super power.

The big blue bird lets you keep the sunglasses and return home with these super powers that you get to use forever.

You thank him and say goodbye,

Feeling really grateful for this experience today,

To have super powers of your own.

You feel certain that you'll see him again soon.

That was beautiful. Really got my 2 boys ready for bed! Your voice sounded familiar - you did mindfulness sessions in my son’s classroom last month which we absolutely loved 🥰
