What if changing a habit could be easier? What if trying, efforting, and sheer force of will are what keeps an unwanted, repetitive cycle happening? Would you be willing to try a new way? This simple practice uses relaxation, a 15-minute catnap, and the power of your subconscious mind to approach changing a habit in a new way.

Welcome,
My name is Bethany,
And I'm glad you're here.
In this guided practice for changing a habit,
We're using the power of relaxation to engage your subconscious mind.
When trying to break a habit,
It's common to try and force change through sheer willpower and determination.
But forcing rarely works and is rarely permanent.
Real and permanent change happens when the subconscious mind finds its own natural path of least resistance.
For this practice,
There's nothing you need to do except relax.
Let your body and conscious mind rest.
While your subconscious mind works towards natural,
Intrinsic change,
As you find a comfortable position and allow your body to settle,
You can follow along with my voice or let it simply wash over you,
Allowing your subconscious mind to guide you.
Your subconscious mind knows exactly what to do,
Knows what is right for you,
And what works best for you.
You are safe,
Completely in control,
And can simply rest.
And now closing your eyes,
If you haven't already,
And if you have,
Simply imagining your eyes gently closing,
Taking a deep,
Cleansing breath in through your nose and exhaling slowly through your mouth on a sigh.
As you continue to breathe deeply and rhythmically,
Imagine a warm golden light radiating from the center of your being,
Expanding with each breath,
Letting it expand and flow through you,
Filling every cell,
Every fiber of your being with its gentle,
Soothing energy,
Feeling your mind quiet,
Your muscles relax,
Your whole body sinking a little deeper into the support beneath you.
And now perhaps imagine yourself standing at the edge of a tranquil forest,
The air is crisp and inviting,
Carrying with it the scent of pine and rich soil,
Damp from a recent rain.
As you step into the forest,
You notice a crossroads ahead where the path splits into two distinct directions.
To your left,
There is a worn path,
Obviously old and used without care or attention.
The ground is muddy,
Waterlogged,
And swampy.
Any grass that once covered the path has been trampled into the mud and any vines or flowers have long since stopped growing.
This path represents the old habit that you wish to change.
It is the familiar but unwanted pattern that no longer represents you.
From this distance,
Standing at the edge of the forest,
You notice just how unappealing and dissatisfying this old path has become.
The thought of trudging back down that old path,
Efforting to slog through it,
Going back to something you don't even want anymore,
Feels off.
It may have offered you something in the past,
But is no longer who you are or the way forward.
You're doing great.
Now,
In a moment,
You can imagine that to your right is a new path.
This path to the right of the crossroads represents a new habit you seek to embrace.
A fresh,
New,
And interesting possibility for you.
As you stand at this crossroads,
You understand now that you have the power to choose something different,
Something that feels better to you now.
You're in control.
You decide.
And it feels genuinely easy.
That's right.
And when you're ready,
With ease and natural intention,
You step onto the new path,
Easily moving forward toward this new way of being.
The ground beneath your feet feels firm and supportive,
As if it is guiding you toward a brighter,
More fulfilling,
More satisfying future.
As you walk along this path,
You notice the colors around you becoming more vibrant,
The air more invigorating.
With each step along this new,
Interesting path,
Your heart feels lighter.
Your mind feels clear and certain.
The choice was easy.
And as you continue your journey forward,
That other path fades away,
And you feel even lighter,
More relaxed,
And at peace.
Now,
Maybe you can imagine a serene,
Crystal-clear lake up ahead on this new path.
Its surface reflects the sky like a mirror,
And you are drawn to its still beauty.
Perhaps you sit by the edge of the lake and dip your fingers into the cool,
Blue water.
If that feels good,
And as you do,
Any remnants of the old habit that might have lingered dissolve into the clear,
Cool water,
Easily replaced by a sense of empowerment and certainty.
You are headed in the right direction,
And you can stay here on the edge of the lake,
Enjoying this feeling of satisfaction.
Or,
With renewed energy,
You could step into a small boat waiting by the shore,
Knowing that you are perfectly safe and completely supported.
Either way,
Knowing that you are headed in the right direction,
And maybe it feels good to relax a little deeper,
Letting go a little more,
Moving a little further along your path,
Easily and effortlessly,
Heading in the right direction,
Gliding easily towards success and freedom,
Maybe feeling a gentle,
Soothing energy flowing through you.
It's so much easier than you expected,
Feels so much better than you realized.
You're doing perfectly.
As you continue your journey,
Maybe it feels good to let your mind wander freely,
Allowing your thoughts to drift lightly,
Like a leaf on the surface of the water.
There is nothing you need to do,
Nothing that needs your attention.
You are safe,
Relaxed,
And at ease,
Flowing along gently and peacefully.
And maybe it feels good to notice a gentle warmth flowing through you,
Your body naturally generating a nourishing,
Healing energy through your whole body.
Taking advantage of this short but deeply restorative rest,
With each breath,
Your body breathes in confident acceptance and exhales any lingering resistance.
Pure,
Nice,
Easy breath,
Now feeling completely at ease,
Fully rested and renewed,
You are firmly on the shore of this new experience.
Feeling curious and interested,
You stand confident and sure-footed,
Perhaps raising your face to the sun,
And feel a profound shift within you.
You are firmly on the shore of a new way of being.
Here,
You can effortlessly tap into your creativity,
Explore new ideas and possibilities,
And embrace positive change with ease.
Energized and inspired,
You know that you can revisit the confidence and renewal of this experience any time you wish.
The power is yours.
You choose,
You decide,
And let it be easy.
In a moment,
I will count up from one to five.
With each number,
You will become more aware of your surroundings,
And you will bring with you this amplified ability to choose this new path with ease.
When I reach the count of five,
You will open your eyes,
Feeling refreshed and filled with confidence.
One,
Becoming aware of your surroundings.
Two,
Feeling a gentle surge of happy energy returning to your body.
Three,
A sense of gratitude and confidence flowing through you.
Four,
Taking a nice deep breath,
Stretching long and wide,
Coming fully awake and alert.
And five,
Open your eyes,
Feeling wonderful in every way.
Welcome back.
As you go about the rest of your day,
Know that your subconscious is continuing to work on your behalf,
Deepening the neural pathway of this intentional change.
Listening to this practice every day for about a week will support this new habit,
Becoming easier more quickly.

Thank you for creating this and your other programs. I listened to this to something wonderful is coming for the last 60 days. I’ve been in a really bad job where people are yelling and screaming at each other in two weeks ago someone put their fist through a door out of frustration in anger. I’ve been looking for another job for such a long time. And yesterday out of the blue it came to me. I was so happy to give my two weeks notice yesterday thank you so much for helping me keep my mind hopeful and helping me keep my mind from being negative. Thank you.

There is something about the tone and texture of your voice that just feels so good in my body. There is a believability that feels so natural. I am realizing the paradox of efforting and learning to drop the sense of urgency that has permeated my life. Thank you for creating this session to continue this process of letting go.
