Welcome,
Let's begin this morning by creating a space for ourselves,
A moment to land gently before the day fully unfolds.
If you're still lying in bed,
Allow your body to settle into the support beneath you.
If you're seated,
Feel the ground in connection of your feet on the floor.
There's no need to change your position or adjust yourself in any particular way.
Simply become aware of where you are in this moment.
Take a deep breath in and exhale slowly through your mouth.
Again,
Inhale deeply and release with a gentle sigh.
Let your breath begin to find its natural rhythm,
The gentle ebb and flow of the life within you.
Feel the rise and fall of your chest or abdomen,
The subtle movement of your body with each inhale and exhale.
Allow yourself to arrive fully in this present moment,
Leaving behind any thoughts of yesterday or anticipations of today.
Now bring your attention to your body.
Notice the sensations that are present,
Perhaps the warmth of your covers,
The coolness of the morning air on your skin,
Or the gentle pressure of your body against its support.
There might be areas of tightness or ease,
Discomfort or comfort.
There's no need to judge these sensations,
Simply observe them with a curious and accepting awareness.
Feel the weight of your body,
Supported and held.
Allow yourself to relax a little more deeply,
Releasing any unnecessary tension.
Let your shoulders drop away from your ears,
Your jaw soften and your hands unclench.
You are safe here.
You are held.
You are allowed to simply be.
As you settle into this morning practice,
Take a few moments to acknowledge the transition from sleep to wakefulness.
Notice the subtle shifts in your awareness,
The gradual return of your senses and the emerging awareness of a new day.
Perhaps you can sense the quality of the light filtering through your window,
The sounds of the morning awakening,
Or the gentle stirrings of energy within your body.
Allow yourself to be present with these sensations,
Without needing to rush into activity or engage with the demands of the day just yet.
If any thoughts about the day ahead begin to surface,
Gently acknowledge them and let them drift away for now.
This is a time for you,
A space to cultivate inner stillness before you meet the world.
Now,
Let's acknowledge that for many,
The morning can be a time when anxiety arises.
Perhaps you wake with a racing heart,
A sense of unease or a mind already filled with worries about the day ahead.
If this is your experience,
Please know that you are not alone.
Morning anxiety is incredibly common.
It doesn't mean you've done anything wrong,
Or that something is inherently wrong with you.
It's a natural,
Human experience,
And it often stems from the way our bodies and minds are wired.
Our brains are designed to anticipate potential threats to keep us safe.
And in the quiet of the morning,
When distractions are minimal,
These protective mechanisms can sometimes become overactive.
So if you're feeling anxious right now,
Let that be okay.
Allow the feeling to be present without resistance or judgment.
You're not trying to get rid of it or push it away.
You're simply acknowledging its presence.
It's important to remember that anxiety is a complex response involving both psychological and physiological components.
It manifests as a cascade of thoughts,
Emotions and physical sensations,
Triggered by the anticipation of future events or the recollection of past experiences.
Please approach yourself with kindness and understanding,
Recognizing that anxiety is a valid human emotion,
Not a personal flaw or weakness.
Now let's turn our attention to the thoughts that often accompany morning anxiety.
From a place of gentle awareness,
Just notice the stories your mind is telling you.
Perhaps there are worries about what might happen today,
Fears about not being good enough or not being able to handle what's to come.
Observe these thoughts as you would passing clouds in the sky.
Notice how they come and they go.
They shift and they change,
Without you needing to actually do anything at all.
And the good news,
You don't have to believe every thought that arises.
You don't have to follow them down their rabbit holes.
You are the sky.
The thoughts are the clouds.
You are the spacious awareness that holds them,
Not the thoughts themselves.
You have the power to choose where you place your attention.
And in this moment,
You can choose to place it on the present,
On the sensations in your body,
On the rhythm of your breath.
Become aware of the nature of your thoughts.
Notice their tendency to jump to conclusions,
To catastrophize or to create worst case scenarios.
Recognize that these are simply mental constructs,
Not accurate reflections of reality.
You have the capacity to observe your thoughts without getting swept away by their emotional charge.
I want you to imagine now that you're sitting beside a flowing river.
Your thoughts are like the water,
Constantly moving,
Swirling and changing.
You can choose to jump into the river and be carried away by the current.
Or for now,
Why don't you just stay on the bank,
Observing the flow without being overwhelmed.
This is the essence of mindfulness.
The ability to witness your thoughts without judgment or attachment.
Let's gently bring our awareness back to the physical sensations of being here now.
Feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest or abdomen as you breathe.
Notice the temperature of the air on your skin.
The feeling of your body against its support.
Wiggle your fingers and toes and reconnect to that aliveness within you.
You are here.
You are safe.
You are breathing and in this moment you are already enough.
You don't have to achieve anything or fix anything to be worthy of peace and calm.
Your worth is inherent and your peace is always available beneath the surface of your thoughts and emotions.
You are already whole and complete,
Regardless of what your mind might be telling you.
You don't need to earn the right to feel calm or to prove your value in any way.
This calm isn't something you have to create or earn.
It's not a destination to be reached through effort or striving.
Calm is the natural state of your being.
The stillness that's always present.
Waiting to be uncovered like a hidden spring beneath the earth.
Like the sun hidden behind the clouds,
Your inner peace is always shining.
Even when your mind is overcast with worry,
Fear or self-doubt.
So let this morning be a reminder of your own resilience.
Your own capacity for calm and your innate worthiness.
You have the inner strength to meet whatever the day brings and you have the inner resources to return to your centre.
No matter how scattered,
Anxious or overwhelmed you might feel.
Take a deep breath in now.
Drawing in a sense of peace,
Strength and self-acceptance.
And exhale slowly.
Releasing any remaining tension,
Fear or self-judgement.
Carry this awareness with you as you begin your day.
Know with certainty that you can return to this breath,
To this body,
To this presence at any time.
The calm and clarity you seek are not external goals to be pursued.
They are your birthright.
Your inherent nature waiting to be rediscovered.
You simply have to pause.
To breathe.
To turn your attention inward.
And to remember the truth of who you are.
Please take that remembrance with you.
As you gently move your body,
Wake up and set off into your day.
