Asking yourself: 'am I aware?' immediately brings you to the natural sense of presence that is always here, but mostly overlooked. You will start to see that there is nothing to do nor to achieve, since you already are. Rest in this being. In essence, you are this indestructible, timeless awareness.

Settle yourself in the awareness of the body,

Feeling the legs resting on your seat or on the floor,

Feeling the cushion or couch or whatever you're sitting on,

Feel it under you,

And take a moment to feel through the body,

Just to make yourself present here now,

Leaving the restlessness of the mind behind.

There may be some sounds around,

They are naturally heard,

But don't attach any meaning or get involved.

Let the world be there,

But don't be involved.

Also notice the play of thoughts,

Some memory,

Some idea coming up and passing,

But be more aware of the silence and the space in which these movements are happening and passing,

Noticing the mere fact that you are aware.

You might ask yourself,

Am I aware?

Not specifically aware of something,

But is awareness here?

And then notice that immediately you know awareness is here.

So rest in that.

Don't add,

No need to add,

Any thoughts,

Any opinions,

Any strife.

Nothing else is needed.

Just when the mind gets very noisy and busy,

Then this simple fact is clouded.

The stories take over our attention,

But this simple question can help you.

Am I aware?

And then to notice,

Yes,

Of course.

And rest in that.

Spacious,

Quiet,

Just here.

It's a bit as if you're waiting,

Because nothing that happens,

Nothing you think,

Nothing you hear is it.

They're given no special attention,

Any thoughts or sounds,

And still you're awake and present.

But it's not exactly like waiting,

Because when we wait,

There's something that we wait for.

And in this case,

There's nothing.

No beginning,

No end.

Nothing more important than just being here.

No need even to completely stop the chatter of the mind.

It just doesn't get your interest.

It has nothing to offer.

It cannot even make you more here or less here.

The awareness is.

Now and then,

Check for yourself.

Am I aware?

Is awareness here?

And then rest in that.

This spacious stillness of mere presence.

No limits.

No for or against.

Just here.

The mind may be looking for something.

The mind likes to solve things,

Get things done,

Analyze.

But there's nothing to be solved or done.

You are already here.

This awareness cannot be created.

It is.

You are.

Try to undo the awareness.

Even such an attempt is perceived in awareness.

Unbroken.

We don't know where things come from.

Why do thoughts happen?

How does the heart beat?

Everything comes from this source of pure awareness.

Mysterious.

Timeless.

Indestructible.

Just here.

Rest in this.

Be quiet as this.
