Master Tilopa gave this simple and powerful advice for meditation many centuries ago: don't remember, imagine, think, analyse or expect, but just be quiet and rest, relax. Letting go of all worries about past, future, and even present, we fall silent and are effortlessly at peace. A wonderful sense of spaciousness and calm arises. Now, you have come home to your true nature. Pure awareness.

Taking a deep breath.

Begin to feel the body.

Feel your seat under the body.

The body resting.

Noticing this space of the body with the various sensations.

Want to evaluate only to connect and to be fully present.

Maybe warmth or the touch of your clothes to the skin.

Noticing how the body just is.

It is just present.

Now,

In this meditation,

We're going to follow the advice of ancient master Tilopa,

Ancient Tibetan master,

Actually Indian in the Tibetan tradition.

Very simple,

Direct advice of six lines.

So the first advice is,

Don't remember.

So that means forget everything that is over,

That is past.

So even a minute ago,

This morning,

Never mind yesterday or before last year,

Forget about everything.

Don't bring it into this moment and just be free of that.

You don't need it for now.

You don't need it.

You don't need to remember it to be here.

Just notice yourself being completely here,

Not involved with what is past.

And the next advice is,

Don't imagine,

Which refers to the future.

So don't imagine how things will be,

Even in a few minutes.

Never mind later tonight,

Tomorrow or after.

Don't imagine,

No need to imagine.

Just be here.

Thinking about the past,

Not imagining the future.

Imagine it's quiet.

And the next part of the advice is,

Don't think,

Which can be taken as don't think about this moment even,

No interpretation of the present moment or of who you are or how you're doing.

So that creates a lot of peace and a freedom to just be here.

Leaving aside the past,

The future and even any ideas about now,

Only then can you be really here and now.

Notice this.

This presence.

The next advice is to not analyse,

Don't analyse.

Don't interpret like how it works,

What it's called.

Understand the deeper meaning,

Even that we can leave aside because those are just concepts.

So even leave those ideas aside.

Try to be smart.

Not engaging with any of that type of thinking.

The next part of Dilopa's advice is,

Don't expect,

Don't work towards anything,

Don't try to make anything happen.

So it's not so much to create a certain feeling or to hope for something,

Even hoping to see something,

Just being here fully.

Now we've left everything behind,

Every type of thinking,

Expecting,

Imagining.

We can all leave it and fully be here,

Empty,

Quiet.

It may feel unusual.

You can just acknowledge that if it feels unusual.

But don't go into thinking again,

Don't be tempted.

So the last part of the advice is to rest,

Relax.

Just be in it,

Resting in it,

In just being.

Now you can turn down the volume.

Nothing to do,

Nothing to think,

Nowhere to get to.

Yet radiantly here.

And of course,

Our thoughts may try to push in again.

They may arise and ask for your attention.

And just remember the advice,

Okay?

Not now,

Now I don't need to think of anything.

Keep resting in your natural presence.

Goodbye.

Maybe at times something is uneasy with not needing to think anything.

And then this uneasiness is also a thought.

Just notice it.

And don't get involved with it.

Just relax and be.

Quietly,

Peacefully be.

Quietly be.

Quietly be.

Notice the quiet,

The spaciousness.

This is your true nature without any opinions or ideas.

It's total presence.

Boundless.

Impersonal,

Free from your personal story.

Timeless.

Free.

And notice there's no I here,

No I doing anything,

No I creating.

If an I arises,

An idea of I arises,

Notice it is just thought and you can let it go.

Leave it aside to rest again in this very moment.

And notice it is just thought and you can let it go.

And notice there's no I here,

No I creating.

Quietly be.

So why this simple advice that has survived many,

Many centuries?

Because this is the direct way to realise your true nature as pure consciousness.

Just this leaving aside all interpretations,

Forgetting about past,

Forgetting about future.

Not holding on to any ideas and rest in yourself.

No problems here,

No questions.

No neediness.

No mind.

No.

No.

No.

No.
