This is a waves of grief meditation designed to help you process your grief and give it space to breathe.
Come into a comfortable seated position with your eyes closed and your hands in your lap.
Begin taking deep inhales and exhaling all the way out.
With each inhale and exhale sinking deeper into your body,
Deeper into your center.
Placing one hand over your heart and one hand over your navel,
Imagine that you're sitting at the edge of the ocean.
You gently feel the lapping of the water around your toes,
Your ankles,
And you're staring out at the waves coming in and going out.
It's now time to allow those waves to become your waves of grief.
Tap into whatever it is that you're grieving in this moment.
Maybe you know exactly what it is,
Maybe you're not quite sure.
Just connect to the feeling that maybe you're avoiding or maybe you just know you need to give space to.
Looking out at the ocean,
Notice a huge wave coming in towards you.
And as it gets closer,
You allow for the wave of your emotion to come up.
You allow tears to roll down your cheeks.
You allow yourself to feel with every part of your body and your heart.
And as that huge wave washes over you,
You feel a release,
A letting go of something that you've been holding on to that has been scary for you to let go of.
Take a deep inhale and hold it at the top for a moment.
Let it out on an open mouth exhale.
Looking out at the ocean again,
Noticing another wave coming in not quite as big as the wave before.
This time you see it coming strongly and you allow yourself again to feel that emotion.
Maybe it's anger,
Maybe it's sadness,
Maybe it's a mixture of both and it washes over you and as it washes over you,
It allows yourself to let go,
Let the tears flow,
Let your heart release.
Taking a deep breath in and exhaling through an open mouth,
Letting go of everything you're holding on to.
This next wave is smaller than the wave before.
You feel it coming and this time you allow yourself to release before it even reaches you.
And by the time it does,
You feel yourself letting go.
It's never yours to carry.
Give yourself to the ocean,
Give your grief to the ocean,
Allow her to wash it away,
To wash you clean.
Inhale,
Hold at the top.
Exhale through an open mouth.
You continue for the next few moments this process of each wave being smaller than the one before until you feel that you have released all the grief that you can in this moment.
Inhale,
Exhale through an open mouth.
Now placing one hand over the other over your heart.
Send gratitude to yourself for sitting with the discomfort,
For giving yourself permission to actually feel what it is that you've been avoiding or what feels so painful.
Grief is a natural human emotion and we so often try to run from it because it's so uncomfortable.
But if you give it some time and space and you listen,
It has a message for you.
So closing your eyes,
Feeling yourself connecting to your heart and asking your grief,
What do you have to say,
What message do I need to hear?
Inhale,
Hold your breath at the top.
Exhale through an open mouth.
Do this meditation as many times as you need and so it is.
Namaste.
