Sometimes the work isn't trying harder or doing more.
Sometimes you've done a million years of trying to make yourself be different.
And it's time to stop.
To apply radical self-acceptance to let yourself be just as you are.
Sometimes the moment when we stop trying to change things,
Trying to change ourselves,
Is when change can come for us.
When we put down the wrangling and the hoops and the hoping,
Then life can come in and shift things.
Sometimes the fire of self-acceptance is exactly what we need to be our best selves.
Personal growth work is so important that we dare to do it differently,
That we look and we self-reflect and we try harder.
All of those are important in being a human.
They will bring us good growth.
And yet at times we can get stuck in making ourselves a project.
I have to be me.
I have to be different.
I have to try harder.
I'm not enough as I am.
When I work hard enough on myself,
Then I will be acceptable,
And then I can do the thing,
Or have the thing,
Or be the thing.
I am speaking carefully here to nuance.
Only you can say when it's rightful to work on yourself more,
And when it's right to go enough's enough.
I am divine and holy and perfect just as I am in my perfectly imperfectness.
I have a strong hunch that at times the most loving thing we can do to change ourselves is to stop and go,
Wow,
I love myself just as I am.
For sure there are reasons why I got here and trauma and society and things that were and things that weren't.
We all have that.
It's called a human existence.
It's not perfect,
This place called Earth.
It does weird things to us,
And that makes us do weird things in the future.
And we can track ourselves.
And try and course correct that and that's rightful.
And at times we can go,
Gosh,
That's how it went down.
This is who it made me,
And for sure I want to show up better for myself and those around me.
" But perhaps we can go,
Wow,
I'm magnificent as I am.
And darn it.
Perhaps I'm enough.
So for the rest of this session,
I want to invite you into radical self-acceptance.
That maybe you've done so much trying,
So much looking at yourself,
So much trying to shame yourself out of it,
Learn your way through it.
What if you sit back now and relax?
What if you receive yourself and all that you've walked through and all that you've lived through?
What if you look at your human foibles with compassion and go,
Wow!
That is me.
I do some strange things sometimes,
But gosh,
I've done a good journey with what happened to me.
Wow!
I've worked hard on myself.
And I have goodness here in my heart.
What if you didn't have to learn more,
Or try more,
Or do more?
But simply shift your sense of self to not just good enough,
But magnificent.
Even in your utter humanness,
Even in the days when your heart is breaking.
Even in the days when you wonder what on earth is going on on earth right now.
I'm right there with you.
I have no idea.
And yet we are here,
And I don't think life makes mistakes.
I don't think that creation gets it wrong.
Trees grow in strange ways.
Streams take all kinds of weird pathways through their life.
Animals do all kinds of mischievous and unfathomable things.
And yet we can see them as kind of perfect as they are.
They're just doing what they're doing.
Apply that to yourself too.
Try on the inner voice that sounds something like this.
Oh,
Darling,
You're doing great.
You've tried so hard.
And yet,
Maybe you don't have to try so hard.
Maybe you're good and great as you are.
Explore what loving yourself hard does.
Not fixing yourself.
Just going,
Wow,
I'm here.
What a miracle I get to be me.
What a privilege I get to be me.
Prescribe yourself a very,
Very large spoonful of the medicine of self-acceptance.
Of self-esteem.
Of self-care.
Of self-knowing.
There's a lot of selves in that sentence is because we're working with our relationship with ourselves.
With radically receiving ourselves.
With coming home to our own heart,
With loving ourselves up large.
Perfection is hard to be around.
I don't know about you,
But I'm rarely pleased by people-pleasing.
But something magnificent happens when we dare to tell the truth about who we are.
We look up with our eyes full of love like,
Yes,
This is what is and hold it with great compassion.
When all of our striving comes from self-acceptance,
From a wish to do well,
From a wish to love.
But from holding a sense of our intrinsic goodness.
What if radical self-acceptance can take you places that all your striving couldn't uncover?
What if self-care is the thing that unlocks all the places you're trying to get to?
What if doing it imperfectly was the secret source that meant you actually got to do it?
Rather than never beginning because you weren't yet ready.
What if daring to be human and give it a go?
Was exactly the right way forward.
What if you didn't have to fathom or figure it out,
And you just sat here with yourself?
With all your hopes and dreams in your heart.
And let yourself be.
So today,
Prescribe yourself several shots of the medicine of radical self-acceptance.
Whenever you find yourself trying so hard,
Soften,
Let your shoulders drop,
Let your heart open,
Look at yourself with love.
See your good intention.
See your wish to do it well.
Love yourself.
And let it be what it is.
Let go of being perfect.
And be human,
And hold yourself in heart.
With fierce love,
With tender love,
With eyes that see the good in you.
Because when we see the good in us,
We can see the good in others.
When we expect too much from ourselves,
We may expect too much from those around us.
So soften and open and let yourself be and let life be.
And see what unfolds from there.
Yes,
Still do the right things.
But let yourself grow,
Let life unfold and unfurl.
Trust yourself,
Trust in the process.
Lighten up on yourself and see what it brings.
So I wish you go from here and delight in yourself.
Delight in just being you and not having to get it right and not having to heal yourself.
Love yourself large,
And see what shifts.
Try it on,
And try it out.
And don't try and get it right.
Thank you so much for not practicing with me.
Thank you so much for not trying so hard.
Thank you so much for daring to care about yourself.
For loving yourself and letting us all be a little more human.
We need that right now.
Hehe.
Wish you wondrous things today that come to you not because you tried.
" just because you are,
Because you deserve the best.
