Welcome to this meditation.
In today's fast-paced world,
Driven by technology and the constant barrage of new information,
Our lives are moving faster than ever before.
We're always connected,
Always expected to respond immediately.
And with that,
Something important has been slipping away.
That important thing is our patience.
It's no surprise that many of us feel overwhelmed,
Frustrated,
Or impatient when things don't happen as quickly as we'd like.
But patience is essential.
It gives us space to breathe,
To accept things as they are,
And to handle life's challenges with calm and clarity.
Patience allows us to live more fully in the present moment,
Instead of rushing through life,
Missing its beauty.
Now let's explore how patience can change our experience and bring us back to a state of peace.
Let's begin by preparing our bodies and minds for meditation.
Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down.
Close your eyes and begin by taking a few deep breaths in through your nose and slowly exhale through your mouth.
Let go of any distractions or thoughts from your day.
Let yourself arrive in this moment.
Bring your attention to your body,
Relax your shoulders,
Soften your jaw,
And let your hands rest gently in your lap or by your sides.
Feel your feet grounding you,
Connecting you with the earth.
If you're seated,
Keep your spine straight,
But not rigid.
Allow the energy to flow freely through your body.
Now let's move to a brief body scan to release any tensions you might be holding.
Start by focusing on the top of your head and as you breathe in,
Gently release any tension.
Move your attention slowly down to your forehead and notice if there's any tightness.
Relax with each breath.
Feel the relaxation move down to your eyes,
Your cheeks,
And your jaw.
With each breath,
Let go of any tightness.
Now bring your awareness to your neck and shoulders.
These are places that often hold tension.
As you exhale,
Feel your shoulders drop,
Relaxing deeper into the moment.
Continue moving down to your chest and your abdomen.
With each breath,
Soften these areas,
Then shift your focus to your back.
Imagine your muscles loosening with each breath.
Let the relaxation spread through your arms and down to your hands and your fingers.
Now bring awareness to your legs,
Allowing them to feel heavy and supported.
Let this sense of calm travel down to your feet.
Take a moment to notice your entire body completely at ease,
Completely relaxed.
In this meditation,
We'll take time to reflect on the root of impatience in our lives.
I'll ask three questions,
Each designed to help you understand where your impatience may be stemming from.
After each question,
There will be the sound of a bell,
And you'll have a minute to breathe and reflect.
Let the question settle in your mind and allow whatever thoughts or feelings arise,
Let them arise without judgment.
Simply observe.
After the moment,
I will ring the bell again,
And then we will begin a second question and repeat the process.
Now first,
Take a deep breath.
As you breathe in,
I want you to ask yourself,
What am I rushing toward?
And why do I feel like I need to get there faster?
Now take another deep breath,
And ask yourself,
When do I feel the most impatient,
And what is that impatience telling me about myself?
Take a moment to reflect.
Now take another deep breath,
Allowing yourself to go deeper into reflection,
And then ask yourself,
What would change if I allowed things to unfold in their own time?
Take a moment to reflect.
Now take a few more deep breaths,
Allowing the answers to settle.
Whatever came up during this meditation is perfectly okay.
Patience is not something we either have or don't have.
It's a practice,
Something we cultivate little by little.
As we close this meditation,
Let the final sounds of the bell remind you of the peace you can carry throughout your day,
And that you can set in meditative awareness and act with clear intentions that will allow you to act wisely,
Compassionately,
Skillfully,
And most important,
Patiently.
Thank you for taking this time to do the meditation with me,
And as we close this meditation,
May you be well,
Happy,
And peaceful.
