Find a comfortable position lying down on your back or supported in a way that feels safe and nurturing.
You may wish to cover yourself with a blanket,
Place a bolster under your knees,
Or have an eye pillow nearby.
This is your time,
Nothing to do,
Nowhere to go to,
Just rest.
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze if that feels better.
Allow your body to settle into the surface beneath you.
Feel the earth holding you completely.
You are safe here.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in through the nose and exhale fully through the mouth with a soft sigh,
Letting the shoulders melt,
The jaw soften,
And the belly relax.
We are here to practice the art of conscious rest,
The deep surrender of Savasana,
And the sacred release of the Diskensos.
In this practice,
We gently lay to rest the old stories,
Beliefs,
And patterns that no longer serve our higher self.
With each breath,
We create space for what wants to be born anew.
Now bring your awareness to the natural rhythm of your breath,
Simply noticing the gentle rise and fall of your belly,
Cool air entering,
And the warm air leaving.
There is nothing to change,
Just witness.
We will now rotate awareness through the body.
Allow each part to be named and then released into deep rest.
Feel free to let go completely.
Even if sleep comes,
Your body is receiving exactly what it needs.
Bring awareness to the right hand,
The right thumb,
Index finger,
Middle finger,
Ring finger,
And pinky finger,
The palm,
The back of the hand,
The wrist,
The forearm,
The elbow,
The upper arm,
The shoulder,
The right side of the chest,
The right side of the waist,
The right hip,
The right thigh,
The right knee,
The right shin,
The right ankle,
The right foot,
All five toes of the right foot.
Now,
The entire right side of the body,
Heavy,
Relaxed,
Sinking into the earth.
Now shifting awareness to the left side,
Left thumb,
Index,
Middle,
Ring,
Pinky,
Palm,
Back of wrist,
The wrist,
The forearm,
Elbow,
Upper arm,
Shoulder,
Left chest,
Left waist,
Left hip,
Left thigh,
The left knee,
And shin,
And ankle,
The left foot,
And all five toes.
The entire left side of the body,
Soft,
Heavy,
Completely at rest.
Now bring awareness to the back of the body,
The back of the head,
The shoulders,
The upper back,
The middle back,
The lower back,
The buttocks,
The back of the thighs,
The calves,
The heels.
Feel the whole back body supported and held by the earth.
Now the front of the body,
The forehead,
The eyes,
The cheeks,
The jaw,
The throat,
The chest,
The belly,
The pelvis.
Let the front body soften and let it open.
The whole body,
From the crown of the head to the tips of the toes,
Resting,
Held,
And safe.
Now we move into the heart of our practice,
The sensus of the soul.
Imagine you were walking along a quiet path in nature,
Perhaps a desert road of twilight or a gentle forest trail.
Along this path you see small markers,
Crosses,
Stones,
Flowers,
Each one honoring a place or something in you once died a little.
With each step,
You gently name the old stories that are ready to be laid to rest.
The story,
I'm not enough.
The story,
I must earn love.
The story of shame,
Of loneliness,
Of betrayal,
Of I should have.
With each name,
You place a small cross or a flower on the earth,
Offering it back with compassion,
Saying silently or out loud,
I see you,
I honor you,
I lay you to rest with pity and with love.
You no longer need to carry this.
Feel the weight lifting,
Feel the shoulders softening,
And the heart growing lighter.
Now visualize a soft golden light beginning to fill the spaces where those old stories once lived.
This light is warm,
Is nurturing,
Is full of possibility.
With every inhale,
You draw in fresh life force,
New energy,
And new beliefs.
With every exhale,
You release what is ready to be returned to the earth and allow a new story to begin forming.
I am worthy exactly as I am.
I am safe within myself.
I belong to me.
And feel this new energy gently blooming in your heart,
In your belly,
In your whole being.
Now bring to mind a simple intention,
A simkelpa,
For the season of your life.
Something short,
Positive,
And in present tense.
Some examples,
I rest in my own wholeness.
I release with ease and rise renewed.
I am safe,
Sovereign,
And whole.
And repeat your simkelpa silently three times,
Planting it like a little seed in the fertile soil of deep rest.
And rest here now in this spaciousness of awareness between waking and sleeping,
Between death and rebirth.
Your body is heavy,
Your mind is quiet,
Your heart is open.
Nothing to fix,
Nothing to prove,
Just pure divine rest.
And when you're ready,
Begin to bring awareness back to the body,
Feeling the breath,
Noticing the surface beneath you,
The temperature of the air on your skin.
Gently wiggle your fingers and your toes,
Stretch through the arms and the legs if it feels good.
Take a deeper breath,
And when you're ready,
Slowly open your eyes,
Returning to the room with a sense of lightness and renewal.
You have done the sacred work today.
You've practiced the art of conscious dying and rebirth,
The ultimate savasana.
Carry this lightness with you whenever you lie down in savasana.
Remember,
You are allowed to let old parts of you die so the truest version of you can live.
Thank you for trusting this practice.
You are deeply worthy of rest.
You are deeply worthy of renewal.
Namaste.
The wild woman in me honors the wild woman in you.
