Welcome,
Dear ones.
Today I'd like to share with you Soham meditation,
A practice I've cherished for many years,
Inspired by my teacher,
Dr.
Vasant Ladd.
In Sohan meditation,
We sit quietly and we observe the breath.
As we inhale,
We silently think the sound SO,
And as we exhale,
We silently think hum.
We do not speak the sounds out loud,
They remain within us.
When sound and when breath and awareness come together,
It becomes light.
Every atom in us irradiates light and heat energy,
Like a quantum wave.
The moment we bring awareness to the breath.
And begin to feel so hum moving within and around us the breath itself becomes radiant inspiration breathing in is life so when a child is born the first breath is life expressing itself an expiration breathing out is release when someone dies we say they've expired and the breath has gone out Hum represents the individual self or ego,
While Soh represents the divine,
Universal consciousness.
So with every inhale of Soh,
We breathe in life,
Light,
And presence.
And with every exhale of Hum,
We release limitation,
Tensions,
And the grasping of ego.
Practice deeply.
Sohum meditation bring us beyond thought,
Beyond time,
Beyond space,
Into profound sense of peace,
Spaciousness,
And connection.
So I share this practice with you and I hope that you can use it as you wish to bring yourself into union with the universal consciousness.
So now gently begin to settle into your body.
Find a comfortable seated position.
Allow your spine to be long and relaxed.
Soften your shoulders,
Relax your jaw.
Let your hands rest gently on your lap or on your knees and slowly gently.
Allow your eyes to close.
Take a deep breath in through the nose and softly exhale through the mouth.
Again,
Breathing in deeply.
And exhaling completely.
And one more time,
Inhaling fully.
And letting go Now allow your breath.
To return to its natural rhythm.
No need to control it.
Simply observe it.
Watch the gentle rising and falling of the breath.
Just as it is.
As you exhale.
And inhale.
And again exhale.
And inhale.
Now inhaling.
Silently think the sound soul.
And as you exhale.
Silently think the sound,
Um.
.
.
So.
.
.
Hum.
So home.
Let the breath become effortless.
Let the mantra flow naturally.
And with every inhale of soul.
Feel that you are breathing in life itself.
Light,
Prana,
Divine consciousness.
And with every exhale,
Of hum,
Feel yourself releasing limitations,
Tension,
Identity,
Ego,
Softening back into spaciousness.
Continue in your own rhythm.
If thoughts arise,
Just simply notice them without judgment.
And gently return to the breath.
So.
.
.
On the inhale,
Hum on the exhale.
Allow your awareness to drift towards the space between the eyebrows,
The third eye center.
Perhaps you imagine a soft golden light there,
A quiet radiance.
Glowing gently with each breath.
As sound,
As breath and awareness come together.
Feel that light expanding through the body.
Calming the nerves,
Quieting the mind.
Softening the heart.
Nothing to force,
Nothing to achieve.
Just breathing.
Just witnessing.
Just being.
And perhaps now.
You begin to feel the spaces between thoughts becoming wider.
Quieter,
More peaceful.
Beyond thought.
Beyond time.
Beyond effort.
Resting in awareness itself.
So,
Hum.
So,
Hum.
Now begin to deepen your breath.
Just slightly.
Feeling the body once again.
Feel the weight of yourself seated here.
Feel the ground beneath you.
Notice whatever peace,
Whatever stillness or spaciousness may be present within you now.
Take one final deep breath in.
And one long,
Slow,
Deep breath out.
Gently begin to wiggle your fingers and your toes.
And when you feel ready.
Softly open your eyes.
And you may carry this piece with you.
Into the rest of your day.
Namaste.
