The inner resource meditation is one of my favorite practices to introduce to my clients to become acquainted with their internal landscape.
It comes from I-REST,
Which is the Integrative Restoration Institute,
Which is an evidence-based treatment center for pain,
Addiction,
And trauma.
I suggest trying this short meditation anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes each day.
All right,
Let's get started.
So take time now.
To develop.
Your inner resource.
This is a sanctuary.
And an inner sanctuary.
That you've visited before.
Or maybe it's a brand new place.
That you're now discovering for the first time.
An inner sanctuary.
Where you feel totally at ease.
And secure and able to completely be yourself without concern.
This may be a special room,
Or a meadow,
Or.
.
.
Beautiful beach,
Or just another location that when you're here you feel completely protected.
Completely secure.
Or it may simply be the feeling of being.
That underlies all that you are.
This is your special place.
Or in a resource where.
.
.
When you're here.
You can relax and feel completely at ease.
Allow this imaginative place to arise.
Spontaneously within you.
As a visual image.
Accompanied by a felt sense in your body.
Feeling of an inner sanctuary.
Where you feel secure.
Protected.
At ease and safe.
Allow all of your senses to come into play.
Hearing sounds that are soothing and relaxing.
Perceiving objects that evoke feelings of comfort and ease.
Or profuse evening smells.
Tastes that evoke good feelings.
And spending as much time as you'd like.
Soaking up.
The feelings,
The sensations,
The visuals.
And allowing this inner refuge of comfort,
Ease,
And security to blossom completely into your awareness.
Experiencing how being here acts on your entire body.
And mind.
Allow spontaneous associations to arise with your inner sanctuary that evokes feelings of security and well-being,
Whether it's objects,
Animals,
People,
And other resources,
That when you perceive them,
You feel deeply at peace,
You feel deeply at ease.
You feel relaxed and comfortable.
There may be people here who totally support you,
Value you for who you are,
Just as you are.
Or there may be wisdom figures,
A wise man or a woman.
Or a powerful animal or object.
Take a few moments now and allow these images to come fully into awareness.
Along with feelings of comfort.
Feelings of security.
And ease of being.
Know that you can return.
To your inner resource at any moment's notice.
At any time of day or night.
You can return whenever you experience the need to feel secure.
And ears.
Each day.
Take time to visit your inner sanctuary.
Allow it to become a haven of comfort.
And ease.
So that in your daily life.
When you feel distressed by a particular experience,
You can pause and you can visit your inner resource and remain here until you feel totally at ease,
Secure,
And comfortable.
Then when you're ready.
You can return again to the experience and begin meeting,
Greeting,
And welcoming it again into awareness.
No way.
That you can return at any time.
To your inner sanctuary.
Should you desire to feel peaceful and relaxed.
