Transcript
Lie down,
Get cozy in your bed or wherever you've chosen to do this sleep journey.
And when you're comfortable,
Close your eyes.
Be still.
Be quiet.
Just lie here.
What are you thinking?
What are you feeling?
Let your thoughts and feelings flow.
Don't hold on to any of them.
Just let them float past.
And have a yawed,
Gentle inhaled yawed.
Let those tired vibes flow.
And as you lie here,
You feel raindrops land on your toes.
Imagine warm little drops of rainwater landing on your toes and feet.
Drip,
Drop,
Drip,
Drop,
Drip,
Drop.
Wiggle your toes in the warm rain.
Stretch out your feet.
Stretch out your legs.
Feel the soft raindrops traveling up your legs.
Drip,
Drop,
Drip,
Drop.
Relax your legs and feet.
Feel the raindrops shower down on your tummy now.
Take a gentle but deep inhale through your nose.
And blow the raindrops away.
They travel up onto your face.
Keep your eyes closed as you enjoy the raindrops landing on your face.
The pitter patter,
Pitter patter,
Pitter patter.
Trickling down onto your cheeks.
Gently shake your head.
From side to side,
Like you were saying no.
And nod up and down,
Like you're saying yes.
Shaking off the raindrops.
These are raindrops of sleep magic.
And as every raindrop lands,
You feel so overcome with their sleepy sensations.
And you feel so heavy.
And so serene.
Feel the raindrops land on your arms.
Stretch out your arms by your sides.
Stretch out your hands.
Stretch out your fingertips.
Let the raindrops shower down and cover your arms and hands and fingers.
Feel the tickle.
Feel the trickle.
Feel each individual touch.
Feel each individual drop land on your skin.
Then pull your arms up and circle over your body and wrap yourself up in a protective umbrella.
But this is not only an umbrella.
It is of course your protective sleep shield.
And you remind yourself you are safe under your sleep shield.
No matter where we journey to,
No matter where you are right now,
You are safe.
With your arms wrapped over you,
Enjoy cuddling yourself and whisper to yourself,
I care.
I care about myself.
I care about rainforests.
I care about the environment.
The raindrops move up over your body and away they go.
And they leave you feeling so tired.
Take a gentle inhale through your nose.
Fill your tummy with air.
And as you exhale,
Blowing all the air out of your tummy,
You see a little green shrub-like plant grow out of the end of your bed.
Take another gentle inhale through your nose.
Fill your tummy with air.
And as you exhale,
Blowing all the air out of your tummy,
Imagine your little plant grows bigger,
Becoming a tree,
And filling your room with its wide trunk and long branches and bright green leaves.
Take another gentle inhale through your nose.
Fill your tummy with air.
And as you exhale,
Blow all the air out of your tummy,
And imagine your tree growing higher still,
Bursting through your ceiling.
Imagine your tree's luscious leaves beautifully hanging overhead.
Take another gentle inhale through your nose.
Fill your tummy with air.
And as you exhale,
Blow all of the air out of your tummy,
And imagine your tree is growing higher still,
Bursting out through your rooftop,
Growing high,
High,
High up into the sky.
Its sturdy,
Strong trunk stands tall.
Its long,
Slender branches are covered in fantastic,
Succulent leaves.
And it towers over you,
Rising so high up into the sky.
And as you imagine yourself looking up at it,
You wonder,
How will you get to the top of this tree?
And then an idea dawns on you.
Imagine your tummy is a balloon.
Now,
Take a deep breath through your nose,
And as your tummy fills with air,
Your balloon fills with air,
And you feel your bed begin to float.
Exhale,
Blow all the air out of your tummy,
Your balloon deflates,
And you imagine your bed floating around your room.
Let's take another deep breath through your nose.
And as your tummy fills with air,
Your balloon fills with air,
And you feel your bed float higher.
Exhale,
Blowing all the air out of your tummy,
Your balloon deflating,
And you feel your bed floating higher and higher,
Rising up through the green leaves,
Past every branch.
Take another deep breath through your nose.
And as your tummy fills with air,
Your balloon fills with air,
And you feel your bed float even higher.
Exhale,
Blowing all the air out of your tummy,
Your balloon deflating,
And feel your bed floating higher and higher,
Past every branch.
Past every branch until we reach the very top of your tree,
And we land on the crown of your tree,
And we look out at the magnificent rainforest before us.
The sun is setting,
Creating a brilliant pink sky,
And shining over the canopy layer of the trees,
Revealing so many shades of green,
This emerald olive and lime,
And the emergent layer of the trees burst through the clouds,
And the clouds sit on their shoulders in a shimmering mist over the canopy.
A tiny frog lands by your side,
One of the iconic rainforest amphibians,
And it flashes its bulging eyes and its huge webbed feet.
Imagine in your mind what colour or colours your frog is.
These frogs are strikingly colourful,
So as to shock and misdirect potential predators and put them off eating the frog for dinner.
What does your frog look like?
It doesn't have to look like a frog you've ever seen before.
It doesn't have to look like a frog David Attenborough's ever seen before.
You decide.
It can be electric blue,
Bright yellow,
Red.
Paint a picture of your frog in your mind,
And when you have it,
Watch your frog leap off the top of the tree,
Ready to guide us through its rainforest.
We float along,
Weaving in and out of the trees,
Watching your frog leap from one tree to another with such ease.
The sun bursts through the leaves in sharp,
Straight shards of light.
As you float amongst this wonderland,
You let go of all your troubles.
Anything that has been playing on your mind disappears.
Inhale,
Taking a gentle breath in,
And exhale,
Blowing all your worries away.
Leave them behind.
For now,
You are free.
Travelling through the canopy of the rainforest makes you feel so warm,
Makes you feel so sleepy.
You weave in and out of so many of the tall,
Hardwood trees.
There's mahogany and rosewood and ebony trees.
You see the creepers growing up their trunks.
You admire the tree's bright leaves and extraordinarily colourful fruit.
A mighty eagle soars overhead,
And you follow your frog as it bounces over towards a spider monkey,
Swinging through the vines,
Snacking on fruit and leaves as it moves.
A tree kangaroo makes huge jumps from tree to tree,
Scaling them quickly with great agility despite its awkward shape.
A sloth hangs upside down from the branches of the trees and waves at you in a slow,
Slow movement.
You notice the greenish algae on its hair providing an excellent camouflage.
As we continue to follow our frog as it leaps from tree to tree,
We feel the raindrops gently trickle through the dense forest canopy.
We hear a soothing pitter-patter,
Pitter-patter,
Pitter-patter.
Such a soothing sound in your ears.
An orangutan cartwheels past,
Using its powerful arms to drag its heavy,
Lethargic body through the trees.
And you spot a well-camouflaged snake using its long,
Thin body to wrap round a tree.
Its scales are covered in green and brown bark-like patterns and gripping tightly onto the branches.
And as your frog leads us down lower,
Deeper into the rainforest,
It gets darker and darker as the light struggles to creep through the dense leaves.
And as we land on the ground,
Our surroundings are dark and humid.
An elephant trundles past,
The guardian of the forest.
We follow the elephant as it stomps along.
The overgrown leaves tickling our cheeks as we travel amongst them.
And across the rocks are an army of leaf-cutter ants,
Marching back and forth from their nest,
Carrying beautiful leaves and flowers.
And your frog bounces on,
Landing on the bank of a delicate stream.
We spot a silverback gorilla,
Very calmly wading through the stream.
We admire its jet-black fur,
See it shining red when the light catches it.
We notice the gorilla's sparkling eyes,
Its long,
Human-like fingers,
Balancing its baby on its back.
As we float along the stream behind it,
We feel the tips of the long grass on either side stroking our shoulders.
And a jaguar enjoys playing in the stream,
Using its powerful paws to fish and swim.
Its fur is a beautiful orange with black spots shaped like roses.
And as we move on from the stream,
We glide back through the wondrous foliage growing so free.
There's rubber trees.
There's banana trees,
Carrying bunches of green bananas not yet ripe for picking.
The beautiful bromeliad plants are so bright in colour,
Dazzling with red,
Orange,
Blue and purple,
Growing their juicy pineapple fruit.
We float past my favourite,
The coffee plant,
Budding its small and fragrant flowers.
We spot a hummingbird feeding from a heliconia,
Its flowers bright red like a lobster's claw.
And we admire wild orchids growing in every shape and size and colour.
And we drift amongst the passion fruit flower hanging from its vigorous vine.
The rainforest is so full of life.
Millions of different kinds of plants and animals live here.
Some haven't even been discovered yet.
We float on and on,
Weaving through the magnificent green leaves hanging all around us.
We are so in awe of this place of wonder.
We care for the rainforest.
We care for the environment.
We care for ourselves.
We float on and on,
Floating up higher and higher through the luscious leaves,
Following the trees up to the top of their canopy,
Up,
Up through the clouds,
Feeling their cotton-walled fingers tickling our skin,
Up,
Up to the top of the emergent trees' leaves.
We look out over the rainforest,
Shades of green as far as the eye can see,
And we flow off into the sky above.
And we flow on and on,
On and on,
On and on,
So tranquil,
So calm,
So tranquil,
So calm,
So tranquil,
So calm.
Until we are back where we began,
In our surroundings.
Only this time it is different,
Because this time you feel so tired,
So sleepy,
And you are so tranquil,
And you are so calm.
And you know,
Whenever you feel in need of revisiting our rainforest,
All you have to do is close your eyes.
Imagine the soft raindrops landing on your skin and covering you in sleep magic.
Use your gentle,
Deep breaths to grow our magnificently tall tree.
Use your balloon breaths to float up to the top of your tree,
And enjoy the rest of your journey through the rainforest in your floating bed.
For now,
Stay here,
So tired,
So sleepy,
So tranquil,
So calm.
This is where I leave you,
To float on into your happy dreams.
Thank you for coming with us on this journey.
Good night.
Good night.
