Hello and welcome to your floating bed.
Thank you for joining us.
Today we are going to do a calming journey instead of a sleep journey so we can be a bit more calm in life.
We are recording this during Mental Health Awareness Week and so I wanted to create something that would put a focus on how we are all feeling right now.
Like Orton said this is our first calming journey which is a bit different to our normal sleep journeys because these are for you to use whenever things feel a bit too much,
A bit overwhelming and maybe you can't explain how you feel or you don't know why you feel that way.
Maybe you've had a tough day at school,
Maybe you're worried about something or frustrated or anxious or disappointed.
There is so much we experience and feel as humans and remember all of your feelings are important because you are important.
So whenever you need it come and join us,
We're here for you and together we will explore ways of feeling calm which in turn will help you to feel more comfortable thinking about and talking about your feelings.
And when we spend time thinking about and talking about our feelings we feel good inside and we can help others feel good inside.
So the bulk of this one is an all over body scan telling our body to relax because often in times of big emotions that is the last thing we do,
Relax.
And so it's good to have these exercises to remind our bodies to relax.
It's such a simple thing to do,
It's so effective but it's the thing we always forget.
And while we are going through connecting with each part of the body you might like to give each body part a little massage,
A little moment to say hello and connect with it.
Grown ups if you are doing this with your child maybe you would like to give just a little gentle massage to each part of the body as we arrive at it.
Or if you prefer just stay still and settled and just simply focus your attention in on that part of the body and remind it to relax.
So let's start by sitting down or lying down whatever is comfortable for you and gently close your eyes.
And let's spend a moment thinking about how we are feeling.
How are you feeling?
Is there a word that could describe how you are feeling?
Is there a sound?
Is there a facial expression?
Could you pull a face and that would describe how you are feeling?
Is there a colour that would express how you are feeling?
It doesn't matter if you don't know how you are feeling,
There's no right answers.
Imagine you stood before a launch pad and an almighty rocket is about to launch before you.
Visualise the rocket,
How does it look?
Imagine every detail,
Its colour,
Its size,
Its shape,
All of it is up to you.
Now I want you to imagine a door on the rocket and you open the door of the rocket and put inside anything you want.
Any emotions,
Any worries,
Anything that's upset you or maybe you feel like you've got too much on your to-do list and so you want to put some of that inside.
Whatever it is you're carrying with you that you've not been quite able to deal with,
Put it inside the rocket and close the door.
And now together we're going to launch that rocket into space.
So take a slow,
Gentle breath in as we count down.
Ten,
Nine,
Eight and hold for seven,
Six and we launch our rocket by exhaling,
Releasing all of that air with a five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Blast off.
Imagine your rocket launched up into space,
Far,
Far above you.
Feel the heat of the exhaust flames.
Hear the roar of the engine thrusting the rocket higher and higher.
See it soar up into space through the bright twinkling stars past the moon,
Up,
Up out of the solar system and it's gone out of sight.
So now all we need to do is concentrate on you.
Take a slow,
Gentle breath in and as you exhale,
Imagine a blanket being pulled up from your toes,
Up over you,
All the way up to your head.
It immerses you in its warmth.
The blanket is so soft.
The blanket is heavy over your body,
Wrapping around you like a big cuddle.
It's so comforting and you feel so safe beneath it.
Spend a moment just enjoying the comfort of this blanket.
Take another slow breath in and let it all go as you exhale.
Imagine a bright blue light has landed on your head.
It doesn't hurt.
You're not afraid of it.
It's a fantastic light and it feels warm and the light brings your attention to your head.
How does your head feel?
Rock your head gently from side to side like you're saying no and nod up and down like you're saying yes.
And the light tells your head to relax head,
Relax.
Keep your eyes shut and imagine the light landing on your eyelids and imagine the light telling your eyes to relax,
Eyes,
Relax.
And the light lands on your chin and it brings your attention to your jaw,
Which is maybe a part of your body you don't pay much attention to.
But take notice of it now.
Give it a gentle wiggle by really gently moving your bottom set of teeth from side to side and the light tells your jaw to relax,
Jaw,
Relax.
And the light moves down to your shoulders.
Notice where your shoulders are.
Bring your shoulders down away from your ears.
Give your shoulders a gentle roll and the light tells your shoulders to relax,
Shoulders,
Relax.
And take a gentle inhale,
Breathing in and puffing out your chest with your inhale of air and feel the light land on your chest.
And as you exhale,
Letting go of that air,
The light tells your chest to relax,
Chest,
Relax.
And take another inhale,
Breathing air into your tummy,
Maybe into your back too if you can manage it.
A big deep breath and the light lands on your tummy and exhale and the light tells your tummy to relax,
Tummy,
Relax.
And the light moves over to your right arm.
Focus on your right arm.
The light tells your arm to relax,
Arm,
Relax.
And you feel your arm relax.
And the light travels down to your right hand and the light tells your hand to relax and relax.
And what about those wiggly fingers?
They rarely relax.
So the brilliant blue light slowly moves across your fingers and you relax your thumb.
You relax your pointing finger.
You relax your middle finger.
You relax your ring finger.
You relax your little pinky finger.
And your right arm and hand and fingers feel so relaxed.
And this great twinkling light leaps over to your left arm and it tells your left arm to relax,
Arm,
Relax.
And as you feel that relaxed sensation flow down your arm,
It arrives at your left hand and you focus on your left hand and hear the light tell your left hand to relax,
Hand,
Relax.
And what about those wiggly fingers again?
It's their turn.
So imagine your blue light softly stroking your fingers as you relax your thumb.
Relax your pointing finger.
Relax your middle finger.
Relax your ring finger.
Relax your little pinky finger.
And the sparkling light lands on your left leg.
How does your left leg feel?
The light tells your leg to relax,
Leg,
Relax.
And its relaxing magic flows down your leg into your left foot.
Your feet carry you around all day.
They need to relax.
And so the shining light tells your left foot to relax,
Foot,
Relax.
And the light delicately moves across each individual toe.
I don't really know the name of individual toes.
So for now,
Let's just make up names for them.
You relax your big toe.
You relax your second toe or we could call it your picky toe.
Relax your middle toe.
We could call that one your Peppa Pig toe.
Relax your fourth toe.
Let's call that one George.
And relax your little pinky toe.
Your leg,
Your foot and toes are so relaxed.
And the light moves over to your right leg.
And the light tells your leg to relax,
Leg,
Relax.
And you feel your leg relax.
You feel that relaxing energy rush down your right leg into your foot.
And the twinkling light tells your right foot to relax,
Foot,
Relax.
And your foot relaxes.
And the light hops from one toe to another.
And as it does,
You feel each individual toe relax.
Let's think of names for them again.
Relax your big toe.
Relax your second toe or we could call it your Dumbledore toe.
And we relax our middle toe.
And we could call this one our Harry Potter toe.
And we relax our fourth toe.
Let's call this one Ron.
And we relax our little pinky toe.
The light has traveled over your body.
And your body feels so relaxed.
And the light finally travels up to your mind.
Imagine the big bright light in your mind.
Shining,
Glittering,
Twinkling light.
And it tells your mind to relax,
Mind,
Relax.
And just stay here,
Enjoying that feeling.
Notice how different your body feels to when we began.
And remind yourself how simple it was to create that change.
And take a slow inhale,
Breathing in,
Filling your tummy with air and breathe out,
Letting it all go.
And your rocket slowly comes back into sight,
Soaring through the starry night sky.
And it lands before you.
What happens next is up to you.
Now that you feel calmer,
You might feel able to open the door of the rocket and take out whatever you put inside and deal with it or talk about it in a more composed way.
Or you might open the door and take out whatever you put inside and realize that now you feel calmer and you're revisiting it with a clearer head.
You realize that that doesn't bother you or upset you or worry you anymore.
In which case,
Maybe all you need to do is throw it away and move on past it.
Or maybe even though the rocket has returned to you,
Perhaps you still don't feel ready to open the door.
And so you might choose to launch the rocket up into space again by repeating our breathing technique and give yourself more time before you open the door again.
It's your decision.
You're in control.
So now just stay here.
Maybe you'll drift off to sleep.
Maybe you just want to remain in this moment.
You can slowly open your eyes when you're ready.
Remember to grab yourself a drink,
Preferably water.
Although I know what children can be like with water,
Or at least I know what my children can be like with water.
And just take everything slowly and take everything very calmly.
Come back and use this journey as often as you want to,
As you need to.
It's yours.
Thank you for joining us again.
We'll see you next time.
Bye.
