Hi,
My name's Jacqueline and I want to talk to you about visualization.
How good are you at visualizing things?
Children are very good at visualizing things.
Just watch and listen to them play.
Their games are full of joyful imagination.
We were just like that.
Children playing with no worries or fears.
Just living a contented life filled with imaginary friends and events.
Then we grew up and life got in the way.
And somewhere in between we forgot how to visualize.
Does that sound like you?
I hear some people say that they can't visualize anything and find it hard to imagine.
For example,
How a room will look after it's decorated or how a wedding gown will look after it is made.
But I believe it is like most things.
If you practice the art,
You will get better at it.
Everyone can visualize things really.
Go ahead,
Try it now.
Picture in your mind's eye a lemon.
See the lemon.
See the beautiful yellow colour.
Now,
Imagine scratching the skin of the lemon.
All that smell,
That pungent lemon smell.
Gorgeous.
Now,
Stick out your tongue and taste the lemon.
That's tangy.
It's a little bitter for me.
How about for you?
Or maybe you like it that way.
Now,
That was easy,
Wasn't it?
Because we already know what a lemon looks like and how it tastes.
But how do we visualize things we haven't seen,
Smelled or touched before?
Simply by practicing and using our imagination.
And the more we do this,
The better our imagination becomes.
And in turn,
Our visualization becomes more enjoyable.
Visualization is good for creating what we want as we sense the feelings of achieving our goals.
It can take us to a place of peace or take us away from a situation we don't want to be in.
It can become our friend,
A shoulder to cry on as it takes us to a happy place.
The more we visualize things,
The calmer and happier we will become.
We attract with our feelings and if life around us is not particularly pleasant and we can't move away from it physically,
We can help to change it by using our imagination and visualizing the things,
Places or people who will make us happy.
And those feelings it creates of happiness will eventually draw happiness towards us.
Here's a technique to practice.
Let's try it now.
Make yourself comfortable.
Now gently close your eyes.
Imagine in your mind's eye a cardboard box.
We all know what a cardboard box looks like,
Don't we?
But this is your cardboard box.
How big is it?
Do you like its colour?
If not,
Then change it to any colour that makes you smile.
What can you do with this cardboard box?
Let's use our imagination a little more now.
Imagine the box in your bedroom.
What will you put in it?
Now imagine the cardboard box in your bathroom.
What will you put in it now?
Now let's put the cardboard box in your kitchen.
What are you going to put in it now?
Okay,
Now your cardboard box is going on an adventure.
Imagine the cardboard box in a garden.
What is in it?
Now imagine the cardboard box at an airport.
Take a look inside it.
What is in it?
Now imagine the cardboard box in a desert.
What is in it?
Now imagine the cardboard box on the top of a mountain.
What is in it?
What can you see in it?
Now the last one.
Imagine the cardboard box by the ocean.
What can you find in it?
Let's do something a little different with the cardboard box now.
Imagine the cardboard box is out in the sunshine.
The hot sun is beating down upon it.
What does it look like?
Now imagine the cardboard box in the wind.
Is the cardboard box blowing around or is there something in the box that's keeping it firmly on the ground?
Now imagine the cardboard box in the rain.
How does the cardboard box look now?
How do you feel about this?
Remember this is your imagination so if you don't like something you can always change it.
We're coming to the end of this visualisation now.
So bring the box back to your mind's eye and move it to a place wherever you are happy.
Make the box the perfect colour and size for you or you can remove it altogether.
Whatever brings you joy.
Now with the feeling of happiness in your heart take a deep breath as you bring yourself back to your room.
Wheel all your fingers and toes and when you are ready open your eyes.
How was that for you?
Did you find visualisation easier than you thought it was going to be?
Keep practising this technique and the easier visualisation will become and you will find many uses for it in your life.
Whatever you are doing have a wonderful day.
Enjoy whatever is around you.
Always find something to smile at.
Have a great day.
Thanks for joining me with this visualisation and I'll speak to you again soon.
Bye for now.
