Hello,
And thanks for tuning in to Tranquil Spirits podcast.
My name's Jacqueline,
And I'm very happy to have you here.
Well,
I don't know how life is for you,
But it's certainly been a crazy year for me,
Filled with its ups and downs,
Which many of us have.
I'm always thankful when life feels good,
But when things aren't going well,
We often feel life is going to stay that way,
And struggle to see past it.
We feel bad and become anxious,
We worry and blame those around us.
We feel that life has never felt so bad,
And our mind fills with stressful thoughts,
Such as we'll never get through this,
It won't ever get any better,
We'll never survive.
We've all felt like this at one time or another.
You may even be going through something stressful at the moment,
And if you are,
I want to tell you,
This too shall pass.
If we take a moment,
I'm sure we can remember a time when something awful was going on in our life,
And we then remember that eventually we did get through it.
Even when we think back to our childhood,
We can remember times when life seemed hardly worth living,
Such as being grounded for a week,
Or when our best friend decided to be someone else's best friend,
Or when the person we had a secret crush on asked someone else out on a date,
Oh that felt like the end of the world.
But during those bad times,
We worked through the emotions and found a way around it,
And eventually it didn't seem so bad.
But when we are actually living a stressful time in life,
When things feel so bad and we can't see a way out,
We don't remember the times we survived,
And no matter how much someone says,
It's okay,
You will be alright,
It doesn't make us feel any better.
In that moment our focus is on our feelings of how bad things are,
Which in a way is making the situation worse,
Not better.
The way we deal with stressful situations determines the length of time the negativity will stay within us.
So what can we do to help ourselves in times of really bad stress?
Here are my 5 tips to get you through tough times.
Number 1.
Breathe.
By taking deep breaths,
You immediately take your attention away from the problem,
And by staying focused on your breaths,
Instead of the problem which is going on around you,
Your body and mind will start to calm.
Keeping your attention on your breathing for a couple of minutes will allow you time to distract from what is causing you stress.
As your body relaxes and you receive the feeling of calm,
You can start to look at the situation in a different way.
You can start looking for a solution rather than be angry at the problem.
Number 2.
Remember how strong you are.
Think back intentionally to some of the obstacles you have overcome throughout your life.
Don't dwell on the problem,
Instead remember how it felt when you overcame that bad situation.
By bringing to mind those good memories,
You create a good feeling inside of you.
Your feelings and emotions are triggered by your thoughts,
So by thinking about situations you have already overcome helps create a feeling of achievement and a belief that you can do that again.
Number 3.
Take control of the situation.
Look at the whole picture of what is going on,
Kind of like you are an onlooker.
If you can do this,
It takes the emotion away from it and you begin to see things from all angles.
Now assess what you can do something about and what you can't.
Now don't worry about the things which are out of your control,
Leave them alone as worrying isn't going to solve them,
It just makes you feel worse.
Instead,
Sort the things you can do something about.
Put your attention where it will do some good on the things you can fix.
This will make you feel positive as you begin to move forward towards the solution.
Number 4.
Reach out to people.
Don't ever feel that you are alone or that you have to do everything yourself.
Reach out to people for advice,
To people who have gone through what you are going through.
Reach out to positive people,
People who will support and believe in you.
Reach out to people who can solve or fix the things which you can't.
And reach out to someone,
Anyone,
Even if it's just for a hug to get you through a shaky moment.
Number 5.
Believe.
If you don't believe things will change,
Then they won't.
Your mindset really does play a big part in how good or bad your life flows.
During difficult situations,
Say to yourself over and over again,
This too shall pass,
This too shall pass,
And really believe it.
Our self-talk is probably more important than what others say to us.
You know you will get through difficult times,
You have your past history which proves that.
Believe in yourself and know that you are capable of doing it again.
So these are my five tips to get through tough times.
Number 1.
Breathe.
Number 2.
Remember how strong you are.
Number 3.
Take control of the situation.
Number 4.
Reach out to people.
And number 5.
Believe.
Throughout my life I have learnt that by putting my attention on only the things I have control over,
I immediately feel more positive.
I have learnt that no problem is too big for me to find a way forward from,
And I have plenty of past experiences which prove that.
I have learnt that there are many people around me who are more than willing to help me when I reach out and ask.
And I have learnt that when I believe in myself,
I can do anything to create a better,
Happier,
More fulfilled life.
