Hi and welcome.
I'm so honored that you have chosen to meditate with me today.
We'll be doing a meditation on seeking comfort from within.
So let's get started.
You can begin by finding a comfortable position seated in a chair or on a mat or if you wish to do so laying down on your bed or couch.
Whatever feels best to you right now in this moment.
And then gently close your eyes.
I want to start this meditation off with a quote by Rumi who said that what you seek is seeking you.
That comfort,
That acceptance,
That unconditional love is looking for you and it's already within you.
All you need to do is to turn inward to hear the important messages more clearly from your mind,
Body and soul.
Each time you sit and meditate you're giving yourself this gift.
Right now you might ask yourself the question what is it that I am seeking as I sit and meditate right here,
Right now.
It could be a few minutes of calm and relaxation.
Maybe you're looking to cultivate more inner awareness or perhaps you're looking for the answer to a question or a persistent feeling that has been following you around for some time.
Right now as you give yourself the gift of stillness and turn inward what will help you most along this path of discovery.
For me it begins with letting go.
Letting go of the day,
The week,
All of the worrying,
The planning,
The problem solving,
Letting it go at least for the next few minutes.
Can you set aside everything just for now and sit in the stillness to see what floats into your awareness.
Can you allow yourself to slow down,
Give yourself that pause that also allows your body and mind to relax a little more and when you do this you can let the thoughts and feelings move through your awareness like clouds in an empty sky simply arising and falling away without adding any judgment but also with a sense of curiosity and tenderness.
Now,
Let's connect a little more with our bodies by taking three conscious breaths.
Breathe in deeply,
Hold for a moment and exhale slowly.
Breathe in again,
Hold and exhale softening every part of your body.
Breathe in feeling your chest and abdomen expanding,
Hold and exhale letting everything go.
Now take a moment to check in with your body and see if there are any remaining places of tension.
Relax your face,
Your eyes,
Your jaw,
Your neck and your shoulders.
Allow your body to be supported and let your belly be soft releasing any holding and remaining tension.
Just try to enjoy this moment of stillness.
There's nowhere you need to be right now.
There's nothing you need to do.
Just be in this moment.
As thoughts or feelings or emotions arise,
Notice them and then return to your breath breathing in and out in a natural rhythm.
Your breath can be used as your anchor bringing you back to the present moment again and again.
When your mind wanders,
You come back to the breath and that moment you notice that your mind has wandered off in thought.
That is the practice.
Gently coming back again and again.
If you notice a thought or feeling or emotion that keeps trying to push its way to the surface of your awareness,
Maybe you can give it some space.
Sit with it.
Allow it to wash over you and share its message with you.
And if you're not ready to hear the message,
Just to sit with it and listen.
As you sit here now and turn inward,
You can begin to uncover parts of you that have been hidden in the darkness for too long.
You can begin to reclaim the person you were meant to be.
That person you are seeking in stillness,
In meditation,
And as you go about your daily life with awareness and presence.
Joseph Campbell said,
The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.
What an idea of allowing yourself to be exactly who you are.
Vulnerable,
Unmasked,
Showing all sides of yourself.
When you begin to become reacquainted with the true you that isn't afraid of being vulnerable,
Awkward,
Silly,
In love,
And sometimes downright messy,
You get that much closer to who you really are.
I think that when we are brave enough to sit in silence and allow all the good,
Bad,
And scary feelings and memories to arise and fall away in their own time without pushing them away,
We are seeking our true selves.
We're asking to be seen and starting to believe that we deserve to be seen.
We are seeking answers to questions we didn't even know we had.
And we are finally seeking unconditional acceptance and love from within.
Because we see that the only place we will find these treasures is by looking inward.
In Elizabeth Gilbert's book,
Big Magic,
She writes,
The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all,
And then stands back to see if we can find them.
The courage to go on that hunt in the first place,
That's what separates a mundane existence from a more enchanted one.
What insightful words that simply by turning inward,
By seeking answers,
Acceptance,
And understanding from within,
That's where the magic can begin to happen.
That's where you can begin to connect with your heart,
The seed of connection between the mind and body.
And ultimately,
That is where you will find what you are seeking.
Thank you for sharing a little bit of your heart and your journey with me today.
I hope that you continue to uncover the treasure that's within you.
And I hope to sit with you again soon.
Take care.
