Hey,
Welcome to the sleep meditation.
Get yourself into a nice comfortable laying down position.
Get good and cozy and nice and relaxed.
Just let your body settle into the mattress.
There's no need to change your breathing.
You're just resting here and a real key to this meditation is going to be the lack of effort.
We're not going to try to fall asleep tonight.
We're simply going to do as sleepy people do.
More specifically,
We're going to do as sleepy brains do.
You see,
As a functioning awake person,
You need to think in coherent narratives.
This leads to this,
This will have this effect,
I'll do this then,
And then this tomorrow.
I need to do this,
I need to do that.
But right now when we're trying to sleep,
We don't need to be a functioning awake person.
We need to be a relaxing sleepy person.
And when you're in this state,
Your brain likes random imagery.
So that's just what you're going to get tonight.
If you enjoy this and you want to skip this intro next time,
Just look for the non intro version of this and we'll get straight to it.
For now,
While you lie there,
You're going to just let your mind wander and I'm going to give you simple images to rest your brain on.
You'll just think of it,
Imagine it,
And then let it fade.
I'll then give you another image.
You don't need to think about what it means,
Just enjoy the imagery and just indulge in this mental snapshot that you create.
And really,
That's all that is required of you.
Think of the image I give you and enjoy it.
Let's get started.
One red apple.
See it in your mind.
Get curious about it.
A brown wooden fence.
One silver spoon.
Two blue mailboxes.
The smoothest pebble you've ever seen.
A bright yellow raincoat.
A closed book.
A white fluffy cloud.
A bowl of green tennis balls.
A stack of paper envelopes.
A striped sock in a washing machine.
A glass jar full of coconut.
A small candle lit.
A bicycle wheel getting repaired.
A soft pillow being fluffed.
A brown leaf blowing on the street.
A teacup with half a cup of tea.
A cashmere scarf resting on a sofa.
A brick wall.
A seashell washing up on the shore.
Just let the images stay as long as they need to.
A suitcase nearly packed.
A lighthouse in the middle of the night.
A decorative kitchen tile.
A pine cone falling from a tree.
A marble countertop.
A used paper clip.
A ladder against a wall.
A ceramic plate.
A snow globe just shaken up.
A wooden table newly varnished.
A door handle on its own.
A paintbrush soaking in oil.
A coin going into a slot.
A cotton towel on a radiator.
A postcard from Brazil.
A stone path leading into a park.
A window frame slightly cracked.
A coffee mug with a smiley face.
A red postbox.
A park bench on a hill.
A bookshelf half full.
A candle flame.
A smooth shell.
A map folded.
A shoelace being tied.
A cushion being placed down.
A tree branch full of leaves.
A leather notebook.
A beach umbrella.
If sleep is slowly coming to you,
Just let it in.
If you still feel awake,
Well that's okay.
All we're doing is imagining.
No need to do anything.
No need to try.
No need to solve.
No need to fix.
A red toolbox full of tools.
A green garden shed.
A blue and white striped teapot.
A wooden ladder laying on the grass.
A metal gate with some rust.
A bus stop sign.
A picnic blanket on the grass.
One silver coin.
A paper fan being opened.
Clay brick being placed.
Three ceiling beams made out of wood.
One tin bucket.
A woven basket full of hay.
A door frame painted brown.
A gravel driveway being driven onto.
A rain puddle.
A street lamp coming on.
A mailbox flag being placed up.
A cardboard box being filled.
A white shirt being ironed.
A hole in the garden being dug.
A stone archway.
A rope attached to a ceiling.
A horse and cart.
A clock on a wall at 3pm.
A tea tray.
A pram with a squeaky wheel.
Slowly let sleep come.
Continue on your own.
Just letting objects appear and disappear.
Random.
Unconnected.
Light.
Drifting.
Slowly.
