There is no set sequence, no target sensation, and no particular body region to move through. A body scan follows a deliberate, ordered route through the body, resting on each region in turn. Receptive Sensing has no route and no target region; sensations are allowed to arrive on their own rather than sought out.
Sensation Tracking
Sensation tracking stays with one chosen sensation and follows how it changes. Receptive Sensing selects nothing to follow; it keeps an open, choiceless stance and lets whatever appears come to awareness.
Focused-Attention Meditation
Focused-attention practice repeatedly returns attention to a single anchor such as the breath. Receptive Sensing is non-directive, with no anchor to return to and no effort to steer attention toward or away from anything.
