In this short guided meditation, we are going to be tuning into our senses beginning with expanding our peripheral vision, allowing us to move from a heightened sympathetic nervous system state into a more grounded parasympathetic state.

Let's just drop into our bodies and see if we can engage our senses in a little bit of a check-in.

So for this one I'm going to actually have you keep your eyes open and I just want you to find a point in front of you a little bit above your eyeline and you're just going to let your gaze soften and you can even bring your hands out next to your head and try to wiggle your fingers until you can see them in your periphery so they're there but not too far back.

And then from there I just want you to see if you can pay attention to what's in your peripheral vision.

What colors are there?

What shapes are there?

Is there movement or stillness?

And then eyes can stay open or closed.

What I'd like you to do is start to notice the sounds in your environment.

See if you can pick up on low and high frequency sounds.

Just listening to them,

Not attaching any meaning or judgment.

And then feel what your body is touching.

If you're sitting on a chair,

Can you feel the weight of your seat on the chair?

Maybe your feet on the floor?

Perhaps your back is leaned up against a backrest.

And then can you feel the texture of the clothing that you're wearing touching your skin?

Can you feel the temperature of the air on your skin?

Is there a breeze?

Is the air fairly still?

Does it feel warm or cooler?

And then when you've taken in those sensations,

See if you can notice any smells in the room.

Take a couple breaths in through your nose.

See if you can notice anything different when you pay more attention to it.

And what about tastes?

Can you taste anything in your mouth?

Maybe you've just had something to eat or drink.

And then I'd like you to tune into your interoception.

Can you tune into that felt sense of your body,

Whether that's a feeling of your heart beating,

Your lungs gently expanding,

Your lungs gently expanding,

Your chest wall.

Maybe you're hungry and your stomach is growling a little bit.

Or maybe you've had something to eat and you're feeling full.

You can also tune into whether your bladder feels full or empty or comfortable.

We're just letting those sensations come up.

And then you can drop your gaze if your eyes are open or just lower your eyes,

Even if they're closed,

And then take a few breaths in.
